Florida may be only state that allows drivers on the road without bodily injury liability coverage.
But you would be amazed at how easily the legislature seems to be excusing it. Governor Crist and CFO Alex Sink..Democrat..are standing with hospital groups and trying to get the legislature to do something about it before October 1.

I suspect I see the hand of Jeb's buddy, Speaker Marco Rubio, at work. They are still on a collision course to cut taxes and do harm in the name of big business, even as Florida's economy tanks.

Fla. Would Be Alone If No-Fault Expires

Florida would be the only state without a requirement for drivers to have bodily injury liability coverage if the present no-fault insurance system expires, the state's chief financial officer said Wednesday.

..."It would leave that 20 percent of Floridians who have inadequate or no health insurance unable to pay their medical bills if injured in traffic accidents, CFO Alex Sink said.

"That's serious," Sink said.

If no-fault expires, motorists still will be required to carry liability insurance for property damage. The present no-fault requirement for personal injury protection, or PIP, will automatically expire Oct. 1 unless the Legislature passes a law to continue it

Sink and Crist have been working with hospitals and other groups to get the legislature to pass something to require mandatory bodily injury coverage when it meets in a special session to cut the state's budget.

Yes, they are still cutting taxes AND cutting the budget. Getting very painful, but no one will blink.

Those hopes likely were dashed when legislative leaders later Wednesday announced they had indefinitely postponed the session beyond a previously announced target date of Sept. 18.

1. What's even worse is all the really old drivers who aren't tested
for driving skills on some mandatory basis. I take it Florida is still like that? A real demolition derby. A friend in his 80s, a non-driver, always semi-jokes he hates crossing the street in the Miami area because most of the drivers can't see the stoplights but they won't give up their cars.

5. Who's going to pay for the expensive emergencies?
I guess there will only be a couple of severely overwhelmed ERs left in Florida by the time the repukes get done with it.

Gawd, I just LOVE living the BEST country IN THE WORLD. No pay? No play. You die. :puke:

7. I've driven in Florida a lot...
and if there was ever a state that needed bodily injury insurance Florida is IT!

I guess with having Jeb as the Governor you're lucky they don't build internment camps for anyone who is registered as a Democrat.
