Bump and Update: Check out the http://www.rollcall.com/issues/53_21/news/19829-1.html">voicemail Sen. Larry Craig left for his lawyer Billy Martin "on a stranger's phone" minutes before his resignation speech. Roll Call obtained the voicemail after it was offered for sale and http://www.idahostatesman.com/newsupdates/story/149810.html">refused by the Idaho Statesman. McJoan at http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2007/9/4/204855/3725">Daily Kos posts the entire transcript.

This story keeps getting weirder by the hour.

"Yes, Billy, this is Larry Craig calling. You can reach me on my cell. Arlen Specter is now willing to come out in my defense, arguing that it appears by all that he knows that I have been railroaded and all that.

"Having all of that, we have reshaped my statement a little bit to say it is my intent to resign on Sept. 30. I think it is important for you to make as bold a statement as you are comfortable with this afternoon, and I would hope you could make it in front of the cameras.

"I think it would help drive the story that I’m willing to fight, that I’ve got quality people out there fighting in my defense, and that this thing could take a new turn or a new shape, it has that potential. Anyway, give me a buzz or give Mike a buzz on that. We’re headed to my press conference now. "Thank you. Bye."

*** - Arlen's coming out? Been railroaded? Do it in front of the cameras? I've got quality people? Could take a new turn? Give me a buzz? Give Mike a buzz?

I don't unnerstand all this political lingo, but it sounds to me like Larry's been thinking again. That's never good....

1. No, this is good, this is good!
Please let the creepy old closeted Senator be fighting the stalwart General Petraeus for the cable news headlines! Let's show the word what Stay The Course really means!

:D

(Full disclosure: I am gay, and Senator Craig's reported behavior in that bathroom is PROOF POSITIVE that he's a tearoom bandit. Oh, it couldn't happen to a nicer political party!)

5. "Tearoom bandit"?
That isn't a New York expression, is it? What's it mean? (My vocabulary has been expanding by leaps and bounds lately.)

13. I sorta coined it.
The bandit part anyway, but "tearoom" is gay slang for a public restroom used to pick up sexual partners.

8. Or....
...it could be influenced by the way he's been dumped and spat upon by other Repukes. By occupying the seat and denying another Repuke heir apparent, he gives himself some leverage to maybe.... punch-up the old Retirement Portfolio. Which will help with the settlement, once he's out of office and his wife files the divorce papers....

12. Larry Craig....
...will no doubt have a press conference, in which he will suggest that he's considering the possibility, of maybe denying that he left that message. That its probably a case where his voice, acting without his knowledge, is being railroaded. And Arlen agrees.

It is mostly likely his political enemies who had commandeered his voice box without his knowledge, and left the message, while he was in the restroom. By himself. Alone.

4. Then there's this from a link cited,
WASHINGTON — Sen. Larry Craig was a no-show today as Congress reconvened after a summer break that ended with the three-term Republican deciding to resign after the disclosure of his guilty plea in a restroom sex sting.

Craig, who has represented Idaho in Congress for 27 years, announced Saturday that he intends to resign from the Senate on Sept. 30.

His spokesman, Dan Whiting, said today that Craig was expected to spend the week in Idaho as the Senate votes on spending bills for veterans and other programs. Whiting did not rule out Craig returning to Washington before the end of the month.

Craig gave up his senior positions on the Senate Veterans Affairs Committee and the Appropriations veterans subcommittee last week, at the request of Senate Republican leaders. The Senate began debating the veterans spending bill today.

He can't even show his fasces in front of their feces? Yeah, the GOP is all about national security. These idiots are just gonna keep getting a lot of people killed.
FWIW, I hope Craig carries through on his flip/flop!

7. It's all over but the sobbing, I think. That flumpalumpalump sound you hear is Mitch McConnell
throwing Larry under the bus:

“I think this episode is over,” said McConnell, R-Ky. “We’ll have a new senator from Idaho, and we’ll move on.”

11. Please oh please let there be evidence that
he was set up. And that he has evidence that links the set up back to KKKarl Rove or, even better, Bush/Cheney.
