Scoop! We All Scream for Stephen Colbert Ice Cream

Glynnis MacNicol | Posted Friday February 9, 2007

Suffering from sweet-toothiness? Ben and Jerry's is rumored to have a new flavour in the works: Stephen Colbert's "Americone Dream" Ice Cream. Information regarding this latest addition was first leaked to Colbert fan site NoFactZone.net by a random Whole Foods employee, who even went so far as to provide this pic. Official confirmation from Ben & Jerry's has not been forthcoming, though company spokesperson Sean Greenwood did hint that should such and ice cream exist, it "COULD be a Patriotic mix of strawberry, blueberry and (American not French) vanilla flavors, striped in the pint with chocolate stars...or perhaps Republican Nut, with each pint lovingly sampled by Dick Cheney to insure product quality." Sound tasty? Have your own ideas about what Truthiness should taste like? Salon is taking suggestions (so far we like "Stephen Colbert's Big Scoop of Balls"). No word yet on whether the White House Press Association has any plans to serve up some cold Colbert at its next dinner.

Seems like shilling a product; I can't believe the dudes running that outfit were hippies...
(and if that doesn't scream "I'm ignorant, please edify me, I implore you!" nothing will...)

8. Ben & Jerry's was aquired by Unilever in 2000
http://www.benjerry.com/our_company/about_us/our_history/timeline/

April 12: Ben & Jerry’s announces the company’s acquisition by Anglo-Dutch corporation, Unilever. Ben & Jerry’s Board of Directors approve Unilever’s offer of $326 million ($43.60 per share, for 8.4 million outstanding shares), as well as a unique agreement enabling Ben & Jerry’s to join forces with Unilever to create an even more dynamic, socially positive ice cream business with a much more global reach. Under the terms of the agreement, Ben & Jerry’s will operate separately from Unilever’s current U.S. ice cream business, with an independent Board of Directors to provide leadership for Ben & Jerry’s social mission & brand integrity.

Haagen Daz has one called Caramel Cone that is really good, and I was looking for something similar in B&J -- leave it to Colbert to make it happen!

9. Must wait for the Spring Thaw.
On Tuesday, another B&J's spokesman, Sean Greenwood, said at least a "couple" new flavors will be introduced this spring, and a Colbert-themed flavor does have some merit.

"It certainly is something we're considering," Greenwood said.
