What if the real reason Impeachment is "Off The Table" is because Bush's finger is "On The Button"?

What if the REAL reason they're not pursing Impeachment, is because they're afraid Our Crazy Dispensationalist pResident will push the Global Suicide Button?

Happy Labor Day!

1. That thought has crossed my mind many times
Something has everyone so compliant with the regime, I just can't put MY finger on it but maybe bu$h has.

2. If that were the case
then things we can't talk about would have already happened.

Far more likely that more white powder would be sent to more congresspersons.

10. The military does have plans in place for dealing with this.
If enough generals came to the conclusion that the President was just completely batshit insane, they'd use their own backroom channels, rally their political allies in Congress and the Cabinet, they they'd have a couple options. One is a "removal in place," where the President technically remains President for the remainder of his term, but things like the "football" with the nuclear launch codes are taken away (or the codes are changed so even if he did use the football, he couldn't successfully launch.) They could even go so far as putting him under house arrest, and have one of the Cabinet members conduct the day-to-day presidential duties while the president cooled his heels.

4. They traded impeachment for Rove and Gonzalez
At least, that's my theory. In exchange for taking impeachment off the table, a few months later, when things had quited and it wouldn't be so obvious, Rove and Gonzalez would resign to "spend more time with their families" or something.

I held the same theory back on this same site back in 2001: a deal was worked out so that Gore would concede the election, but Jim Jeffords would switch parties a few months later, giving the Democrats the Senate and maintaining a relative status quo until 2002, when everything would be fair game again.

Now, where'd I put my tinfoil hat...

5. That is an excellent point but some would rather take the risk because being
"right" is more important than being "alive'

6. The Football Is Not In The Paws Of The Chimp, IMHO
I highly doubt the Vacationer-Guy has his finger anywhere except up his @$$, picking for propaganda. I would like to believe it is in capable, rational hands.

11. The last rational Bush Admin person was Colin Powell.
And let's put it this way...

Ashcroft turned out to be one of the GOOD guys (compared to Gonzo and Skeletor, anyway).

The Bushies don't set the bar very high, do they?

When in history was the military ever accountable to the VP? Where does Mr Non-Executive Branch fit in the military chain of command? Do you really think the Chiefs would follow his orders? I really doubt it.

I think they are just trying to scare everyone. Don't forget that ruling through fear = terrorism.

"Either you're with us, or you're with the terrorists?" Sound like a double standard now?

I am not with the terrorists, that includes the imaginary ones in the middle east, and the very real ones in the white house...

13. that may be a reason why congresscritters fear impeachment
however - bush/cheney don't give a rats ass what congress or "we the people" think. The only way to get his finger off the freaking button is to get his sorry butt out of the chair and onto a rail heading out of town

15. There is no fear of impeachment. The Democrats don't have the votes, and they don't have the time.

16. The Congress is complicit. Almost all of them have voted to support Bush policies.
Over and over. The impeach Bush is to impeach themselves. That is why impeachment is off the table.
