I Feel Sorry For Senator Craig But Not For The Party That Created Him
I hope he finds the peace that has alluded him his entire life however I don't feel sorry for the Republican party. They have supported policies that created the environment that doomed Senator Craig...Sure, he was a hypocrite...He voted in favor of legislation that injured gay folks but he would have never been in that position if he had let the voters of his state know his true orientation...

1. I feel sorry for the thousands of honorable gay people discharged from the armed services...
losing their benefits and who suffered greatly because of Larry Craig's votes and positions.

My compassion is clearly somewhere different than yours.

6. Have you ever posted here about your compassion for all the gay vets discharged?
Did your "compassion" for those "in distress" ever lead you to start a thread on behalf of the thousand of lives ruined because of Senator Craig's votes and cruel policies regarding gays serving in the military?

Should I search the archives for the threads you've initiated on that subject from your liberal compassion?

8. Be My Guest
I am impressed that you can divine the breadth of a person's compassion by their anonymous writings on a mesage board.

Oh, thank you for judging me... I can skip church...

12. Not about the vets who have suffered (many are my friends)...
Edited on Fri Aug-31-07 07:37 PM by David Zephyr
but I'm truly touched that Senator Craig has your compassion. Meanwhile, one of my friends (a 56 year old woman) has trouble keeping a job now, has no health-care because of her discharge and is the caretaker of her companion, Beverly, who is a quadriplegic. My friend gave her entire adult life to the Armed Forces after leaving her family's farm in Kentucky, yet was discharged because of who she was, not anything she did. The Larry Craig's of this world are responsible for her situation.

You want me to feel sorry for that hypocritical and cruel sack of shit? Light a candle for him if you must. I hope he rots in hell for the heartache he's caused.

Never mind, his voting against hate-crime protection for gays and lesbians which would protect gay teens from being physically and psychologically damaged.

Jeez.

14. I Hate The Sin And Not The Sinner
Edited on Fri Aug-31-07 07:41 PM by DemocratSinceBirth
I hate everything the GOP stands for but it's hard for me to hate individual GOPers...

Hell, I even felt pity for Saddam Hussein when he was humiliated in the final moments of his life...

I respect your opinion... I just don't harbor hate for people; even people who hurt me personally and hurt me badly... I have had enemies that at the time I could have killed and told the authorities they deserved to die...Those feeling passed and now I look at them as comical and somewhat sad figures...

10. Agree Completely
The closet destroys.

To create a new Democratic majority (one that neuters Blue Dogs and Con GOPS), my vote is to hire a private detective to snarl out these hypocritical, self hating homos and sex craving prostitute loving heteros.

They've declared war on the GLBT and I'm tired of us taking the high road.

5. I actually don't feel sorry for him.
Oddly, although I am horrified by the bathroom homophobia rampant on DU, I have no sympathy for Craig. It is that hypocrisy thing. He lost any right to anonymity when he made legislative gay bashing part of his agenda. Tough shit Larry.

Edited on Fri Aug-31-07 07:21 PM by Va Lefty
He profited and advanced his career by playing off of people's bigotry, intolerance and fear. I have a great deal of sympathy for his kids and grandkids and what they must be going thru by no fault of their own.

11. I feel sorry for...
Every single gay person who has to live in a country where assholes like Craig get elected, and are allowed to legislate hatred against them. It's okay to hate gays in America. That's sad. It should be okay to hate the bigotry and ignorance propogated by the Republican Party.

13. Sorry, but....
...I have absolutely NO sympathy for a freaking

HYPOCRITE

like Larry Craig. He set out to HURT people, deny them rights, and to win elections by being hateful and bigoted towards them.

Fuck, Larry Craig. He is exactly where he deserves to be. It is one thing to be in the closet and wondering about one's sexuality...and if that was the entire deal with him, of course, I would have sympathy. But that is NOT what Larry Craig is about. He harmed his family, hurt them and harmed and hurt the gay citizens or our nation. So fuck him. I feel sorry for the people he hurt because of his hypocrisy, but not one bit sorry for him.

JMHO

15. I don't feel sorry for him.
I don't care what his sexual orientation is or how he gets his thrills, as long as his activities involve a consenting adult. But ... for years, he has used his position of power to promote hatred and discrimination against a particular group of people because of who they love and/or who they're having sex with. It's almost as if Craig is angry at people who are openly gay and have the courage to live their lives honestly, so he uses his public influence to make their lives miserable. The same can be said for the other RW hypocrites who have been exposed recently. Why are they so obsessed with other people's sex lives, particularly same-sex relationships?

True, the entire GOP and their policies created the environment that doomed Craig ... but when it came time to promote those policies, Craig was right there with them. I do think it's horrible that people feel like they must hide who they are in order to fit in to society, but that doesn't give them the right to hurt the people who live openly. You want to hide? So be it - that's none of my business ... but leave everyone else alone and let them live their lives in peace.
