At the same time as his speech, U.S. troops in Iran detained 8 Iranians who were in the company of 7 Iraqis, nears the Sheraton hotel. These Iranians were in Iraq to help with rebuilding power stations. The Iranians were handcuffed and blindfolded.

After several hours, the Iranians were released. Two of them were carrying diplomatic papers. Iraqi government officials vouched for the Iranians.

Iran, the BBC reported, is incensed.

will the U.S. military go along? Bush ran through several generals who wouldn't sign off on his plans with Iraq. It's no secret that the Pentagon has been soliciting plans for an attack on Iran for years, but the question is, have they found one that they think will work given the present state of our armed forces?
