Total lunar eclipse this morning - if anyone is awake
It starts in about an hour here on the west coast.

'The spectacular eclipse occurs the morning of August 28. Circumstances favor observers west of the Mississippi, who missed out on the March lunar eclipse. Better still, this event marks the first central lunar eclipse since 2000.'

5. NOOOO. Watch it for the next hour.
The shadow will start to cover the moon, then it will turn red once it stops receiving sunlight.

6. Mine's out the front porch
Just above the treetop. The moon is really bright, is that part of it too? Very cool. Glad people posted it, I read about it earlier and forgot already.

2. Happening now in Southern Oregon
This is going to be soooo cool! It has been years since we have had good weather here for a total lunar eclipse.

I live in an RV park on the Rogue River, the trees will get in the way so I will have to move around the next couple of hours.

And I am the only one outside, kind of spooky!

3. For you people on the East Coast, you will have a better shot in February.
It will be earlier too (9pm to 1am or so on the east coast).

7. Looks like someone took a bite out of it from here!
I just set up the telescope in the front yard.

Time to wake the 'night sleepers' in the house so they can get a look before sunrise...

Checking in from Central Indiana.

Hopefully the February eclipse will be on a nice cold clear crisp February evening. And not a nice cold crisp blizzard February evening.

24. From my bed
Every time we have a nice big moon I can lie in my RV bed (sort of like in a treehouse) and watch the moon through a little window.

Tonight I will be able to see the full eclipse that way.

25. Just about there! Looking good in southwest Michigan.
It is a bit fanciful to imagine that as the moon turns orange that we are on a different planet with a different moon.

Of course, I like to imagine George Bush on that planet, with the rest of us here and I feel a bit better.

45. good grief! I was awake at 1:30 and noticed how lovely the full moon was, how bright it was
and how peaceful the forest and meadow looked bathed in its light.

I was up at 6:10 to feed the chickens and commented to my husband how winter must be coming as it was dark outside..... doh! :banghead:

Never even looked up at the sky as I let the birds out and checked on the new chicks that hatched yesterday.... I am SO slow sometimes - the elipse was afoot and I'm looking DOWN. :eyes:

but a big THANK YOU to the person who posted the AMAZING photos!!!
