Nuh uh. Looks like the overwhelming majority of Mississippians polled today wants to bring them home now.

This is Mississippi's largest daily newspaper. You can check on the poll's progress through the day here (lower right side of the page):

1. It's the same way in Iowa and Nebraska--a majority want to start
withdrawal (slim though it may be). But the 30-percenters have a stranglehold on our elected officials.

2. Even during Vietnam, most southerners were very supportive of continuing...
our involvement there.

Not this time. I was astonished to see this this morning. Usually, on polls like this, the percentage runs around the 50s...52 for, 48 against. 53 against, 47 for. But this poll is a clear demonstration that the vast majority of Mississippians do not support continued involvement in Iraq, and I'm thrilled to see that!

3. One thing that pisses me off about our fellow Mississippians Maddy
is that it took these yahoos five freaking years to realize what we knew way back when. In so many ways, we all suffer so much because of the ignorance and pride of conservatives.

Don't forget to vote tomorrow. We have a barnburner of a Sheriff's runoff down her in Pearl River County on the Republican side. A rich guy is trying to buy the nomination and his opponent is the current Chief of Police of Picayune (my choice of the two) but I'll be voting in the Dem Primary.

4. Hey, BOSS, I'll take it where I can get it.
:)

Good morning. :hi:

I'll be voting tomorrow...a guy I loathe is running for a judge's seat. Runoff election between this unqualified white guy and a very qualified black guy. I'm voting for the black guy. And I'll do it all over again in November, when the current white Republican sheriff faces a former Democratic black sheriff. You don't even have to guess which sheriff's candidate I'll vote for, do you?

8. I'll be voting
straight party democrat come November even for the person that is our nominee for governor (I find him somewhat embarrassing, but maybe its a trick to convince the religious zealots that democrats too can be christians.) I'm hoping the competent law enforcement officer beats the guy with all the money for the gop sheriff's race down here to ensure some semblance of competency in the sheriff's office. I find it hard to believe one would spend 170K to win a primary in a small southern rural Mississippi County. He is, after all, an Oilman. And, of yeah, A Christian too. Its the first line in his campaign literature.

11. Holy crap! 170K???
That's disgusting. I'll be rooting for your candidate...please PM me and let me know how the election results go tomorrow night.

I'm going to vote for Eaves, but I'm kinda disgusted with him. He had three golden eggs drop in his lap: 1) Revelations about the Barbour family profiting off Katrina recovery; 2) bringing the casinos on shore (really pissed off the evangelical crowd here); 3) refusal to drop taxes on groceries and raise taxes on cigs (big tobacco affiliation).

Eaves has not capitalized on any of those hot-button issues.

He'll get my vote, but he could be running his campaign a lot more efficiently. :grr:

5. Yet even at that
The majority of coverage centers on three guys who say we shouldn't pull out immediately: Sycophants-cum-"critics" O'Hanlon and Pollack, and Washington Representative Brian Baird. Think you'll hear a peep in the popular media about this startling poll result?

6. I've been reading many more editorials in local Mississippi newspapers...
that say that it's futile to continue in Iraq. I'm hoping that Mississippians are reading those editorials.

9. I really hate to burst your bubble...
but it's a completely unscientific poll, and it's not even restricted to Mississippians. So the results are totally meaningless.

10. How often do you read the Clarion Ledger?
Are you aware of the results of polls in the past?

I watch the polls in this paper every day. And I'm relatively sure that, until I posted this link and a wider audience saw the polls, the voters in the paper's poll were the ones who usually vote in the paper's polls--it's readers across the state.

I'm aware that it isn't a scientific poll; neither are the other daily polls in the paper that demonstrate Mississippians views on a variety of topics. I'm pretty secure in believing that no big contingent of liberals logged on to the Clarion Ledger at 7AM this morning to sway the poll.

My bubble remains intact.

12. It's still meaningless
You neglect to consider that liberals tend to read the newspaper and read in general. Conservatives generally get their propaganda fill from Fox News and Rush Limbaugh.

13. No more meaningless than your assertion that conservatives don't read the Clarion Ledger.
Can you cite any study that shows that conservatives don't read this newspaper? Can you explain how past results in this newspaper's polls reflect conservative votes?

15. For once as a Mississippian, I am not in the minority!
Unfortunately, it's far too late, for the damage has already been inflicted. I was disapproving of Bush before it became the popular trend, but if we went to the west coast or the east coast, I would've been a typical story, not among the few who got boos and jeers for criticizing the president and his idiotic war.
