Hannity Pummeled On His Hypocrisy Over Ted Nugent
I’ve got to think that after Bob Beckel and Alan Colmes got through with Sean Hannity tonight (8/24/07), even blind Republican viewers saw through his hypocrisy as he tried to defend rocker Ted Nugent’s vile comments about Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama by likening them to Democratic criticisms of Bush administration war policy. With video.

Beckel was outstanding as he demanded that Hannity answer “yes or no” whether he would denounce Nugent for calling Obama “a piece of shit” who should “suck on my machine gun” and Clinton, a “worthless bitch” who should "ride into the sunset” on his machine gun. But, hilariously, Hannity insisted that his comparison to Obama's comments about the war in Afghanistan was apt.

Colmes wasn’t shabby either. He pointed out Hannity’s outrage over the Dixie Chicks’ much milder comments about Bush, then played a clip of Nugent calling for the arrest of a left-wing blogger who had joked about shooting him. Even the Republican guest, Karen Hanretty, called Nugent “a lunatic.”

31. You hit it dead on, in the very first comment!
The simple fact is, Hannity is profoundly stupid. I honestly believe that of all the right-wing moran wackos that we talk about here, Hannity is by far the stupidest.

Definition of stupid from dictionary.com:

1. lacking ordinary quickness and keenness of mind; dull.
2. characterized by or proceeding from mental dullness; foolish; senseless: a stupid question.
3. tediously dull, esp. due to lack of meaning or sense; inane; pointless: a stupid party.
4. annoying or irritating; troublesome: Turn off that stupid radio.

That's our Sean!

Pathetic how little rage there is against this threat from the cultural leader of this front for the gun lobby and reichwing politics. If democracy can't put the gun lobby and it's gun nut foot soldiers out of business then you can forget about universal healthcare, ending American imperialism, making intelligent decisions on climate change, putting Americans to work rebuilding our infrastructure, NOTHING WILL MATTER TILL THE NRA IS BEATEN INTO SUBMISSION, THESE ARE THE BROWNSHIRTED REICHWING FOOT SOLDIERS BRAGGING ABOUT WHAT THEY"RE GONNA DO OUR LEADERSHIP WITH THEIR NEW BARRETS AND BLACK RIFLES THAT WE ARE LETTING THEM EASILY BUY. THE GUN LOBBY AND IT'S MINIONS WILL THREATEN OR EVEN KILL GORE, HILLARY, OBAMA, KUCINICH, MICHAEL MOORE, WHOMEVER THEY LIKE AND LAUGH IT WAS THEIR FAULT FOR SUPPORTING THE COMMON SENSE GUN LAWS THE REST OF THE FREE ADVANCED WORLD HAS.

9. Wes Clark said that anyone who wanted an assault weapon should join the army
Edited on Sat Aug-25-07 08:17 PM by billbuckhead
"Nugent at one point during his convention speech screamed:
"Remember the Alamo! Shoot 'em! To show you how radical I am, I want carjackers dead. I want rapists dead. I want burglars dead. I want child molestors dead. I want the bad guys dead. No court case. No parole. No early release. I want 'em dead. Get a gun, and when they attack you, shoot 'em."

So the self proclaimed party of "life" aligns themselves with the NRA, and Tom Delay and Ted Nugent criss cross the country advocating violence against those who "attack you," including "activist judges." Wow, that is quite the culture of life that conservatives love to promote. So that is moral values? You have to wonder what their children are learning.

Even more disgusting was when Nugent ran out on stage in Houston with two giant assault rifles in each of his hands. I'm sure the families of deceased policemen, and women, by the hands of assault weapons on the streets of America appreciated Nugents promotion of such unnecessary weaponry now easily available to street criminals, gangs, and even terrorists. After all, conservatives pandered to the NRA by allowing the assualt weapons ban to expire, instead of thinking about national security. I could only imagine what will happen to that vicious deer that gets in Nugents way. As General Wesley Clark says, "if you want an assault weapon we have a uniform and two shiny pairs of boots for you in the United States Army." But then again, you don't expect a party full of draft dodgers, and chickenhawks to defend America, right? No, we need them patrolling the front lines of our nations forests shooting animals with assault weapons. Nugent is more armed then our own soldiers in Iraq it would appear. That is an atrocity!"

11. Except the Army uses NFA Title 2/Class III restricted machineguns, not civilian target rifles.
And non-automatic, small-caliber centerfire carbines are the most popular civilian target and defensive rifles in America, a fact that Mr. Clark seemed to be unaware of at the time he made that statement.

15. Nuge's guns may BE machineguns...
after all, he probably can afford to drop $30,000 to $50,000 on a pair of NFA Title 2/Class III restricted automatic weapons, assuming he can qualify for a BATFE Form 4.

But if they're machineguns, they're not "assault weapons," because "assault weapons" are non-automatic, NFA Title 1 civilian guns. AR-15's, SKS's, M1 Garands and M1 carbines, Ruger mini-14's and 10/22's, civilian AK derivatives, Hammerli target pistols, etc. etc. Which, of course, the Army doesn't use.

20. Show me where I defended Nugent.
I said he was a jerk, and the academic question of whether the rifles he was waving were nonfunctional stage props, NFA Title 1 civilian guns, or hyper-expensive NFA Title 2/Class III restricted machineguns don't change the fact that he was acting like an idiot.

He was making a point.

And his point was?

Mr. Clark is very familiar with military weaponry, and possibly some civilian shotguns. However, he seemed to be under the misconception in 2004 that NFA Title 2/Class III restricted military weapons have something to do with the "assault weapon" ban. They don't.

"Assault weapons" are non-automatic civilian rifles, shotguns, and pistols, including the most popular civilian target rifles in America, not military automatic weapons. His comment at least came across as displaying complete unfamiliarity with the Title 2/Class III provisions of the National Firearms Act of 1934, whether he meant it that way or not.

26. In that case, prepare for a lifetime of disappointment
We have learned from the mistakes of the past, one of them being the semi-auto ban of 1994. And you know what the beauty of progressives is? We progress. We move forward. That's sort of our thing. And some of us, believe it or not, are armed and intend to stay that way, regardless of what Sarah Brady or Josh Sugarmann says.

22. I don't think you got what Begala did to Nugent that day.
He had some super hot chile venison sausage that just about choked Nugent to death. He embarassed him pretty well. I thought it was a hoot. Nugent doesn't like hunting, he likes killing. My boss went hunting in Africa and met Nugent and Nugent said, "Hey blood brother, what didja kill!" It even made my boss sick, the way he drooled it out. Nugent is in desparate need of an asskicking.

12. He probably has enough money to afford NFA Title 2/Class III weapons...
A civilian-transferable AK-47 or M16 will set you back $15,000 and up, assuming you can qualify for a BATFE Form 4 to authorize you to possess one, but I'm sure somebody with his money could probably afford to drop 30 to 50 grand on a pair of actual NFA restricted assault rifles.

That doesn't make him any less of a jerk for his comments, though.

23. I love all of the inflammation against gun ownership brought about by Ted Fuck-nut.
So when armies of Ted Nugent wanna-bes's, (see Blackwater), are storming the streets, how do you all want it? In the face? In the chest? You see, Ted Nugent represents exactly the domestic terrorist we need to be able to protect ourselves against. Sorry all you pacifists out there, but the only reasoning these assholes understand is even odds. They are cowards, and would not hesitate to prey on the unarmed. Hell look at what they do to deer, or Wild Turkeys, or the circle of hippies singing Kum-bay-yah... Do turn this into another pathetic gun control argument. See it for the threat it is. A pathetic, washed-up moron, who would love to kill him some libruls. Do you think he would surrender his weapons? Then why the fuck should you?

Edited on Mon Aug-27-07 07:22 PM by billbuckhead
Perhaps we won't get another liberal leader assassinated if we start with this turd of being. Ted would surrender his weapons in a heartbeat if he had to face the police. If he wants to do a Koresh, fine. Reality is that the vast majority of these gun nuts are courage challenged, that's why they hide behind guns, many have guns to keep their wives under control or to scare their neignbors.

LOL...is that why my wife owns those eee-villll guns of hers? You do realize that one in three U.S. gun owners is female, yes?

http://www.editorandpublisher.com/eandp/news/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1000745373

Also, it should also be noted that approximately 79,999,999 American gun owners are not Ted Nugent, a fact that should seem rather obvious, but which some people apparently miss...

You are doing quite a bit of fantasizing here about what you think motivates those of us who (1) aren't Ted Nugent, and (2) believe in responsible civilian gun ownership. If you won't sully yourself by actually listening to what we poor tainted souls have to say about ourselves, may I at least point you toward a third-party resource in the realm of cultural anthropology:

Kohn, Abigail, Shooters: Myths and Realities of America's Gun Culture, Oxford University Press, 2004. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0195150511/104-1131320-8331947?v=glance">(Link)

BTW, that competitive target shooter on the cover is female, and not coincidentally, she is shooting the most popular small-caliber target rifle in America--an AR-15...

32. The poll said one in three women owns a gun, not
Edited on Tue Aug-28-07 10:35 AM by benEzra
one in three gun owners is a woman. However, I also found some lower numbers (below).

Here is the text of the E&P article:

Press Image of Gun Owner Not Far Off, Except for All Those Women

Editor and Publisher
January 4th, 2005

NEW YORK A Gallup Poll released this morning reveals that the average American owns 1.7 guns, with the average gun owner possessing 4.4 of them. The press is quick to promote stereotypes of the average gun owner as a white male, most likely Republican, living in a rural area or the South. But how well does reality match the image? The new Gallup Poll shows that the stereotype is not that far off, but with several twists.

For one thing, one out of three American women say they own a gun. That's not much below the overall mark of 40% for all American adults.

As for other elements of the stereotype: More than half (53%) of Republicans own guns, compared with 36% of political independents and 31% of Democrats. Whites are more likely than nonwhites to own (44% and 24%, respectively), according to Gallup.

Residents of the South are significantly more likely than those living in other regions to report owning a gun. More than half of those living in rural areas (56%) own a gun, compared with 40% of suburbanites and 29% of those living in urban areas.

From 1959 through 1993, an average of 47% of Americans reported having a gun in their homes. Since that time, household gun ownership has dropped to an average of 40%.

Gallup also asked those with guns in their households about the total number of guns they have. A majority of gun owners (62%) have more than one gun on their properties, including 29% who say they have five or more guns.

But do guns make you safer? “Americans are divided on the topic,” Gallup reports, with 46% saying that having a gun in the home makes it a more dangerous place to be, and 42% saying guns make households safer.

Cross-checking with some other sources, I found another poll conducted about the same time, also by Gallup, that gave lower numbers, so the national mean is probably somewhere between those two data sets. Here are the lowball numbers:

Nearly half of men (47%) report personal ownership, compared with just 13% of women.

Americans aged 18 to 29 are slightly less likely than those who are older to be gun owners. Only one in five 18- to 29-year-olds (21%) say they own a gun, while 32% of 30- to 49-year-olds and 31% of those aged 50 and older report ownership.

Roughly one in three Americans who live in the Midwest (34%) and the South (36%) say they personally own a gun. Ownership is lower among those residing in the East (22%) and the West (23%).

Forty-one percent of Republicans say they own a gun, compared with 27% of independents and 23% of Democrats.

One in three whites (33%) own a gun, while only about one in six nonwhites (18%) do.

The fact that two different polls only months apart by the same polling organization gave female-ownership numbers differing by a factor of more than two do suggest that either female gun ownership rates have a geographic component that the polling organization failed to take into account when contacting respondents, ambiguity in the questions, or other factors.
