2. Not according to Cuba's foreign minister

(side note: How many Castro's dead rumors are there going to be before the real thing happens? I believe this makes number 5,672 or so.)

3. I accept that Castro will eventually pass away
I sincerely hope that date is after January 2009. Bonus points if Bush Sr. is dead by then as well.

9. It'll happen soon enough.
Then we get to find out just how much of the loyalty he's inspired is cult of personality and how much is honest belief in the system he helped install. I think they'll do better than many people expect; the country survived the loss of it's protector and benefactor in the Soviet Union, they'll probably survive the loss of their figure head.

10. All over the local news here in South Florida. One of our drivers just came back
from Miami - he said it sounds like the party's starting already.

13. Yeah, but they're ready to dance in the streets over his demise at a moment's notice.
For what it's worth, word from inside Cuba, posted on a South Florida blog, says there's been no unusual police or military activity:

14. Castro's best friends will be texting Perez
"Perez u r saying hurtful things about my friend Fidel. You say he jumped the shark and is totally dead. But he has feelings too. He has struggled so hard in his recovery and it hurts him when u say stuff like this. I think u need to say u r sorry."

15. and the entire thing was about "Castro"?
the embargo, the people leaving on ships that wouldn't make it thru the Floriduh straits, the Elian fiasco, the crazyness of 50 yrs about 1 man. Something is very wrong with alot of people. Thinking that an idealogical struggle could be framed in one man. I can't figure it out, I've worked with Cubans, I've talked to the ones I worked with, they hated him but why did we cut off all the things that could have made us come out winners in this shit?
