Three girls arrested after skinny dipping
Edited on Tue Aug-21-07 10:06 AM by Sapere aude
Just posting this story to show the hypocrisy of some police. The girls get arrested for nudity and rowdiness and then sent to jail half naked and have their pictures taken.

If being naked is such a crime why keep them that way and why photograph them?

ANCOUVER -- A midnight skinny dip last week turned into a "humiliating" visit to jail for two B.C. sisters who claim they were arrested and hauled half-naked to Delta police cells.

The Boundary Bay sisters, aged 17 and 18, have registered a complaint against the Delta police, claiming they were wrongfully arrested after their dip on July 16.

The sisters, along with another 18-year-old girl, were stopped at about 1 a.m. by a female officer investigating a noise complaint at a nearby elementary school.

snip
"It wasn't that much fun," she said. "They took our pictures and then took us through to the jail cells. The inmates were screaming at us as went because we were naked."

13. Jealous of what?
I know numerous police officers who are female and not a one has ever arrested another woman because they were jealous.

Can you be more misogynistic?

51. Why would a woman police officer abuse her authority like this?
The charges seem pretty frivolous, putting these women through a lot of humiliation, trauma and expense for what?

Its bad enough police would waste time on this, but why would a woman police officer do it?

54. Read the whole article. The girls weren't arrested for the skinny dipping
from the actual article:

The police say they found the girls intoxicated and unclothed and that the older sister had nearly hit the police cruiser when she reversed her car and tried to flee, said Const. Paul Eisenzimer.

She then fled on foot down the beach while the other two girls screamed and swore at the officer, he said.

Skinny dipping will normally just get you ordered to re-dress and depart the premises (I speak from experience here). Fleeing from cops while drunk and cussing them out is what gets you hauled off to jail.

49. If you've spent any time on nude beaches...
you'd know that all body shapes and sizes are represented. My experience has been that there are significantly more "pear-shaped" middle aged men and women than the prototypical hard-bodies.

** Generalization Warning ** I think it's an age and maturity thing. Once you hit your 40's, I think people are just more comfortable with who they are, and how they look, and don't feel the need to "impress" anymore. At least that seems to be the attitude among the people I've talked to.

43. Yeah, and cops never lie, do they?
"The girls deny they were drinking or causing a ruckus at the school. They also argue they were not allowed to get their clothes from the car or given anything to wear at the police station, where they were held for nine hours.

The older sister was wearing only a bikini; the younger had managed to pull on a tank top and the other girl a sweatshirt but neither had clothes to cover their bottoms."

"Eisenzimer refused to discuss the case as it's being investigated by professional standards member acting Staff-Sgt. Ian MacWilliams.

He said the investigation will likely be "fairly high" on MacWilliams' list, and would likely take a week or two to complete.

The Delta police station and cell blocks are monitored by video cameras, and the footage will be used in the investigation.

He added most people brought into the station are not photographed or finger-printed unless they are accused of a criminal offence."

50. I'll agree with that... but forgive me if I've become so cynical in Bushmerikkka
that I'll give the benefit of the doubt to the teenagers quicker than I will to the cops...

It's sad too, because I can remember 10 - 12 years ago teaching my kids that 'cops are your friends'... even though I lived a lot my younger years on the opposite side of the law. I always knew I was breaking the law, but I also knew that if I got caught it wasn't the cop's fault, he was doing his job and he did it right this time.

The same for people who like to drive fast. Don't drive 90mph everywhere you go, then bitch when you get a ticket. You broke the law, you got caught.. deal with it, and think about all the times you got away with it. Sadly, most people don't even equate something like speeding as "breaking the law" even though it is. Remember this: It's only a crime if you get caught :sarcasm:

Some people don't see midnight skinny dips as a crime either, and in some places it's not. The only one that seems to be being charged is the older sister, and there's no charges of public nudity or anything else, just for running from the cops and DUI.

"She was given a 24-hour driving suspension and is facing charges of impaired driving and escaping lawful custody. She said she also had to pay $200 to get her car back after it was towed."

Now, the article doesn't say, but could it be possible that the girls heard a car coming and, not knowing it was police officers, tried to get out of there quick? Sometimes a very innocent action can turn for the worse in a heartbeat.

Another thing I found interesting was that the original call was over a noise complaint at a school, and the the article states that "The police say they found the girls intoxicated and unclothed and that the older sister had nearly hit the police cruiser when she reversed her car and tried to flee, said Const. Paul Eisenzimer.

She then fled on foot down the beach while the other two girls screamed and swore at the officer, he said.
"

So is the a beachfront school? Were they trespassing somewhere? I see no charges for trespassing or public nudity. What's the underlying crime? Yes, there's lots of unanswered questions here, but the bottom line is this:

It is never proper for anyone to take nude or half nude photos of a 17 year old unless that person taking the photos is a coroner or detective documenting a DEAD body. Period.

The cops were wrong to not let them get their clothes on before taking them in and photographing them. Whether they had committed a crime is irrelevent at this point. The cops took half nude photos of a 17 year old girl and they should be arrested as child pornographers and lose their jobs, imho.

46. first off, they are clearly different cases
secondly, people who claim to "just wanting to enforce the laws" in immigration threads are just using tired talking points, and don't really value law and order like they claim. Its just an excuse.

Third, if you're talking about the situation I think you are, we are talking about laws that break up families. Meanwhile, this sounds like spoiled suburbanites crying foul for getting busted by the cops.

Finally, the thread you are talking about today, "Is there any reason an American citizen should be separated..." or whatever its called... I have one post in that thread, a reply to someone I know personally.

So you are lying your ass off.

28. That sounds like it was poorly done -- if they weren't doing anything else
illegal that required them to be taken into custody immediately, they should have been allowed to redress themselves before going to the station.

Sounds like a botched arrest to me.

And people should be able to swim in the nude anyway, but that's a whole different discussion.
