Trudeau is a true genius. He's a latter-day philosopher, brilliantly self-packaged - ie: he offers his message or his lesson or his keen observation in cartoon-strip form. One of the absolute best delivery systems, lemme tellya! Cartoons are accessible to everybody. And to a visually-oriented society in particular, they're very eye-catching. Because he's an extraordinarily clever cartoonist, whatever Garry Trudeau wants to say will get out rawther widely, and to a public that will be that much more receptive, viscerally. He creates great cartoons. People like cartoons. Cartoons are good. Boom. Message delivered. And happily signed for, most likely.

I've been a fan since Watergate. He's almost always funny and when he's not being funny, he's heart-piercingly poignant.

I always "save the best for last" and read Doonesbury as the last comic strip of the morning. The funny pages aren't supposed to be so poignant and insightful as Trudeau manages to make them.
