Passengers Flee Airliner Fireball

Updated: 10:10, Monday August 20, 2007

A China Airlines spokesman said the firm's aircraft skidded on the tarmac on its way from the runway to the gate after landing at Okinawa, Japan.

Transport Ministry official Akihiko Tamura said: "The fire started when the first engine below the main left wing exploded, a minute after the aircraft entered the parking spot."

1. That was a VERY WEIRD thing. I can't figure out what they mean "skidded" or how
it would contribute to an engine blowing up unless they dragged it on the ground or ingested some serious FOD.

4. Those Szechuan dinners were too damned spicy
It looks like it blew up amidships in the pantry area.

Is this a repeat of the center tank fuel pump problem?

10. That airline seems to be prone to weird accidents/incidents, like this one:
Edited on Mon Aug-20-07 07:27 PM by ocelot
This involved a Boeing 747SP, which for some reason lost power on one of its engines. The pilots didn't do anything to counteract the asymmetric thrust, and the aircraft rolled over and descended 30,000 feet, to about 9,000 feet.

D'oh!

I wouldn't fly on one of their airliners even if the tickets were free.
