I think it might be a mistake for all the Dem candidates to keep
hammering the "pull the troops out" strategy. There are rumors that Shrub will begin doing that by Dec. NOT ALL of them, but enough to make it look like he's heading in that direction. What are our Dems going to say THEN?

2. By Nov 2008 it'll be quite clear enough how little Bush pulled out
If Bush abandons the war for real, clap and watch his base explode.

6. If Bush actually ENDS the war (doubt it), I WILL clap as it will be about the only sensible thing
he's done, except maybe the do not call list. Of course it would still be a enormous net toll of death and misery and more still to come, but I would applaud THAT action even if it were only to save his miserable party.

4. Correct. Rug, meet jerker.
They are like lemmings to the sea.

What will they do when they get there?

Everybody is playing it safe.

5. So if Bush wants out of Iraq we should oppose that? I don't get your question.
If Bush announced tomorrow that we were getting out of Iraq, this Democrat would say: IT'S ABOUT TIME!

For a lot of us, "pull the troops out" isn't a politically motivated strategy to win an election. Some of us actually mean it....

8. Frankly, I don't care, the troops will be home
First of all, other than Kucinich and the other "second tier" candidates, the Dems really aren't "hammering" Bush about bringing the troops home. Hell, Hillary has hinted that she'll keep the troops in Iraq, and Obama jumps from ending the war to starting a new one with Pakistan:shrug:

Secondly, if this sort of political consideration will urge Bush to start a drawdown, so be it. Wanting this to be solely the purvue of a Democratic president is simply playing politics with peoples' lives. I would rather my cousin come home in January '08 under Bush rather than getting injured or killed waiting for DemX in January '09.

Besides, this is Bushco, there will be enough pain and suffering for the Dems to run on, even if there is absolutely, utterly no war going on(and really now, how likely is that going to happen, really).

Keep the pressure going, and let the troops come home ASAP. Alive under Bush is still better than dead under a Dem.

9. I am SO GLAD they're having the coversation. And by any means
available, bring the troops home. Most people won't be bowing and scraping at the dim one's feet for doing that because it's due to him we're there in the first place, and have been for way too long.
