Why is it even on DU most people are attracted to the publicity ?
I see more view and posts as well as replies to posts about Anna Nicole or candy bar adds than the most important topics of all time .

Is it just me or does this seem to be a sort of transfer from the tv shows many seem to watch like american idol ?

2. It is a fun derversion for people between the serious. Even they can laugh sometimes
It's like the silly images we post. Why can';t we laugh or discuss something that has nothing to do with politics. Why can people not just chat about the stupid as well.
I just logged on so was not witness to the postings but, I don't think it's bad. harmless derversion.

3. In case you had not realized it
About 80% of the stuff on DU is of the "not important" nature.

But, believe it or not, that does not mean that people don't care about the "important" things.

Oh, and the candy bar thing WAS important although now that it has been pulled we should move on from it.

And I have never watched more than three minutes of american idol thank you very much!

4.  It was just a damn question .
It is certainly not personal since I don't know anyone here who replied . I don't keep track of user ID's nore do I post attacks to topics I don't find interest in .

Call it curiousity , call it whatever you desire , it was just a question not a personal attack .

Ten posts on the very same topic does seem a bit extreme to me , but this is just my opinion .

8. It's not unusual for DU...
some news will break and people will post like crazy about it. I've seen it with Schiavo, Edwards' House, the Duke Rape story and more.

As with any headline, people will move on until something else comes along that gets attention then you'll find 10,20 or more posts on the same subject.

9. Most people want to be associated with what is "popular".
That's why there are so many more people involved with peace issues than poverty issues.

Poverty just ain't sexy. :(

10. They are printing the flyers now that will be dropped on the Iraqi people
letting them know of the free, democratic, important news of america regarding Anna's death.

They can't wait to be free.

11. It requires absolutely no intelligence or research to be absolutely certain of one's opinion.
 It's also totally unnecessary to read/listen - easy to ascribe another's perspective to some base motivation.
