Judge To Jurors: Don't Watch 'CSI,' 'Nancy Grace'
Judge To Jurors: Don't Watch 'CSI,' 'Nancy Grace'
Shows Create Unrealistic Expectations, Judge Says

HAMILTON, Ohio -- Most jurors are told not to read news about their case. But jurors in Butler County can't even look forward to their weekly installment of "CSI."

Common Pleas Judge Patricia Oney ordered sitting jurors in Hamilton that they can't watch shows ranging from the "CSI" crime scene investigation shows to the several "Law & Order" series.

Those shows, although fictional, can create unrealistic expectations for jurors, such as about what can and cannot be done with evidence, said Oney.

"So many shows now are pulled in part from cases all over the country," Oney said. "I don't want jurors watching them while they are in deliberation."

1. If they already watch these shows
it's a little too late to tell them not to.

3. They should be encouraged to watch Barney Miller
when it was on, cops around the country rated it the most realistic cop program.

4. Again, why are Americans treated like small children? Does this judge really think
we're too stupid to know the difference between fiction and reality?

7. Actually, no and yes
I don't think the judge has a right to do this but it is a fact that jurors all over the country have been citing CSI for quite a while, expecting forensics that either doesn't really yet exist, (CSI..The Original...won a Neptune, a prestigious SciFi award because it turned out that some of the forensics on the show actually is still only theoretical at this point.)...or expecting forensics that only some of the top labs in the country have...like the FBI lab. So this is really happening and no, I don't always think the ADULT viewing public always knows the difference between fiction and reality. Still, I don't think the judge has a right to make this demand and if the people are already fans of the shows, they already have the expectations...so what is the point....

11. Hey it might be a good way to
get excused from jury duty.
JUDGE - Does anyone believe they should be excused
Potential juror - YES your honor I am addicted to watching CSI, Law & Order and all its spin offs etc., etc.
