Protesters show up in force near Cheney home
By WHITNEY ROYSTER, Star-Tribune

WILSON -- Some 200 people gathered in a Wilson field Saturday afternoon for a "Peace Rally" to protest the Iraq war and send a message to Vice President Dick Cheney, who owns a home just up the road.

"We organized it because of the war in Iraq and what an injustice it has been," Walt Farmer, retired Air Force captain and registered Republican said. "The Vice President has received a pass in Jackson long enough. We want to let them know we don't approve of the war or how they play fast and loose with the Constitution."

Attending a rally first with speakers, including State Rep. Pete Jorgensen (D-Jackson), author Alexandra Fuller and musicians, the group then took to the county bike path where they marched 1.5 miles north to the entrance of the exclusive Teton Pines Country Club, where Cheney lives when he is in Wyoming.

A 10-foot tall effigy of Cheney, with a fishing pole in one hand and a spouting oil well in the other, was brought on the route. Rally-goers toppled the statute as a symbolic gesture of their disapproval of the vice president.

1. Machine Gun Cheney

Dick Cheney is a proud gun owner and hunter.

In April the Vice President addressed the NRA to wild cheers and acknowledged his own interest in guns.

But a source close to the White House tells NewsMax that Dick Cheney is a true gun aficionado.

Cheney's collection, our sources say, is in the hundreds of guns, including pistols, shotguns and machine guns -- from antique Thompsons to the most modern European automatic machine guns.

To let off some steam (God knows he has some to let off these days), the Vice President has been known to go out to the federal training center in Maryland where the Secret Service does its own gun practice.

A typical Cheney visit, told to us by a person who attended one, included the Vice President bringing some 30 guns from his own collection.

On the ranger, Cheney would blow away his targets -- with Thompson machine guns, the latest German and Austrian machine guns, Lugars, MP5s, shot guns, you name it.

One after another an aide would hand the Vice President his latest armament, and Cheney would fire away, no doubt imagining al-Qaeda terrorists in his gun sights.

We're told Cheney is a good shot to boot.

Cheney is not shy about his shooting activities. Another Cheney friend tells us that at the Cheneys' Christmas party last year he showcased to guests a video of himself shooting while hunting.

8. My family had my father committed in March of '06 for having 50 guns
and for threatening members of the family. Cheney has hundreds of guns, shoots them on a weekly basis with the aide of the Secret Service to "let off steam" and threatens our world neighbors regularly. Sounds like a recipe for committment to me. We just need a good, concerned family lawyer. Soon, before Uncle Dick hurts a member of the family, a neighbor or himself!

Democrats Say Leaving Iraq May Take Years
http://www.nytimes.com/2007/08/12/us/politics/12dems.ht...

"John Edwards, the former North Carolina senator, would keep troops in the region to intervene in an Iraqi genocide and be prepared for military action if violence spills into other countries." And Hilary always supported this...foolishly, these so-called progressives seem to want to make Bush's War into a Democrat's War, just in time for the election. How crazy can you be ? First you give him a FISA win and now THIS !

Dennis Kucinich now appears to be carrying the progressive banner. Unless Edward's gut changes fast, I'll be switching to DK

John McCain quoted in NYT's Bob Herbert's column 'Heads In The Sand' said we'd be stuck in Iraq for "ten, twenty years...That's not so bad..."

Apparently Edwards and Clinton want to join McCain in his ratings ? Who in the hell are they listening to ? Not the US joe six-pack citizenry.

13. Dems wanting to "keep troops in the region" means the withdrawal a la Murtha
would be fine with me, but a limited presence and not at "permanent bases". Stay the course is the Bush agenda, not the Democrats, if I hear the real spin.
