Even the name "free speech zone"... What kind of evil bastard thought of THAT.

Free Speech Zones are a shameful embarrasment to our country and constitution.

1. Silly me, I thought America was a 'free speech zone'...
Did they repeal the First Amendment while I was shopping this morning?
:eyes:

10. You're right. They've been around.
I went to the Democratic Convention in Chicago in 1996. I remember the weird feeling I had when I passed the Free Speech Zones.

3. You're right!
Fred Phelps has the right to stand at the alter, next to the preacher and protest when a gay couple marries.

6. There's slipery slopes on all sides, however...
Any reasonable person would agree that political speech is a right, but hate speech is not.

So that argument doesn't fly.

Fred Phelps also has the right to have a brick thrown at his head by an anonymous admirer.

8. He was here in Wagoner, OK a while back protesting a soldier's funeral
(actually I don't know if he personally showed up, I never saw him, or your brick scenario may have been factual), but I did find one of their cars parked on the highway and was present when the valves mysteriously popped out of their tire stems.

16. Scrap free speech zones and enact harassment free zones.
That would satisfy me. Just as long as I have the right to exclude "free speech" harassment from some private function of my own. I have the right to gather with friends and not be harassed for it. That should include a new age fortune telling convention being free of Christian harassment, and a Republican organization's meeting being free of tree-hugger harassment.
