Stocks fall as Fed adds more liquidity By TIM PARADIS, AP Business Writer
4 minutes ago

NEW YORK - Wall Street headed into its final hour of a volatile week down but off its lows after the Federal Reserve said it would for the third time inject liquidity into the banking system. The afternoon move made for jittery stocks, perhaps raising the notion that troubles in the credit market are worse than perceived.

The stock market, which has been gyrating for weeks over fears that credit is drying up, had pared its losses after the Fed's second injection of cash and following morning comments from the central bank that it would do all it can to "facilitate the orderly functioning of financial markets." The day's declines and continued volatility, however, showed the depths of fear that have investors yanking money out of stocks.

The Fed added $19 billion in liquidity to the market Friday morning, then another $16 billion and, in mid-afternoon, $3 billion.

Federal Reserve policy makers "are trying to do everything they can short of cutting the federal funds rate" to try to calm the markets, said Ed Yardeni, president of Yardeni Research in Great Neck, N.Y.

But, he said, "I think they probably have to cut rates, and probably before their scheduled September meeting."

1. No amount of rate cutting is going to fix this. It's just going to have to unwind.

2. We are where many of us have feared these
policies would take us

The ONLY bright side, is that the house of cards is falling under bush... and they could not hold it off until the next election

6. Only if the Dems can successfully pin it all on GOP ideology.
Which should be awfully easy, but the Dems have proven time and again that they can fuck up a wet dream.

13. there's nothing wrong appealing to cosmic justice
it's never wrong to do that, ever. in fact, time and time again, many world views, religions, etc. recommend that this is the best course of action. it gets it out of your system which clears you for positivity and success to enter your life.

the catch though is that the universe is far more subtle, devious, and exacting in punishment. it'll be unlikely that it'll be exactly as you envision it.

7. Yes, that's the only shining moment in this whole fiasco.
It's all happening under Bush. It can't be blamed on Clinton (although I'm sure they'll try.) This is Bush's baby, just like the war in Iraq.

Both will ensure he's labeled a TOTAL, COMPLETE F*CK UP OF A FAILURE pRESIDENT FOREVER. History will mark the man as the absolute worst, ever. Bar none. Nixon must love Bush! Bush has done so much to exonerate Nixon.
