Buck Henry new correspondent on The Daily Show
Began his new gig tonight as TDS' "Senior Historical Correspondent".

he's brilliant.

He's now 77 years old. He co-wrote "The Graduate", "The Owl and the Pussycat", "Day of the Dolphin" (where he voiced the dolphin!), "To Die For", and co-created and wrote "Get Smart".

It's great to see him back on TV with a regular spot! Kudos to The Daily Show for hiring him.

5. I saw that...
Buck Henry has an amazing sense of the absurd. With today's political environment I'd say he's the perfect "Senior Historical Correspondent".

7. Indeed
I love this Wiki entry:

Society for Indecency to Naked Animals
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jump to: navigation, search
The Society for Indecency to Naked Animals, or SINA , was a hoax perpetrated by comedian Alan Abel from 1959 to 1962. The group used the language and rhetoric of conservative moralists for the aim of clothing naked animals including pets, barnyard animals, and large wildlife (an alleged debate within SINA was how large an animal had to be to require clothing). Slogans such as "Decency today means morality tomorrow" and "A nude horse is a rude horse" were offered frequently. Actor Buck Henry played the role of group president G. Clifford Prout, and Alan Abel played the group vice president.

SINA actually acquired ardent supporters, some of whom attempted to contribute a great deal of money. This aided SINA's (false) claims of gaining momentum - at one point they claimed to have tens of thousands of members. They also published a newsletter, in an issue of which is found an anthem of sorts:

High on the wings of SINA / we fight for the future now;
Let's clothe every pet and animal / whether dog, cat horse or cow!
G. Clifford Prout, our President / he works for you and me,
So clothe all your pets and join the march / for worldwide Decency!
S.I.N.A., that's our call / all for one and one for all.
Hoist our flag for all to see / waving for Morality.
Onward we strive together / stronger in every way,
All mankind and his animal friends / for SINA, S.I.N.A.!

The group was brought down when staffers on Walter Cronkite's news show recognized Buck Henry while taping an interview.

Alan Abel managed to keep the newsletter going for several more years, hoaxing members who had not heard of or seen the CBS segment.

He's so everyman and so sincere that if you're not in on the joke he's got ya.

10. Fan-fooking-tastic!
I lurve Buck Henry! It's good to see him resurface, once again, with "the kids". :bounce:

He made a comment a couple years back, bout Bu$h, that he thought it should be imperative that the POTUS speak English as his/her primary language. :-)

And weren't Mr. Tesha and I just discussing Colonels Cathcart
and Korn just the other day?

(As it turns out, Mr. Tesha seems to work for these two guys,
now retired into civilian life. But Boss #2 isn't nearly as
funny as Buck Henry was as Colonel Korn, although he wants
to be liked just as much.)

24. I still laugh when I see him play the hotel desk clerk in The Graduate
Edited on Fri Aug-10-07 09:32 AM by TahitiNut
Not only did he ARTFULLY make that film a total classic as the chief writer ... dancing on the balance beam of humor and pathos ... he struck EXACTLY the right note opposite Hoffman as the desk clerk. I have to imagine that those scenes offer enough material for entire classes in acting schools.
