Interesting questions raised by re-reading the original Tillman story
Here it is, from MSNBC on 4/26/2004:

Tillman, 27, was a member of the 2nd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, based at Fort Lewis, Wash. The battalion was involved in Operation Mountain Storm in southeastern Afghanistan, part of the U.S. campaign against fighters of the al-Qaida terror network and the former Taliban government along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border, military officials told NBC News.

U.S. military spokesman Lt. Col. Matthew Beevers said Saturday that Tillman was killed Thursday night in a firefight at about 7 p.m. on a road near Sperah, about 25 miles southwest of a U.S. base at Khost. After coming under fire, Tillmans patrol got out of their vehicles and gave chase, moving toward the spot of the ambush. Beevers said the fighting was sustained and lasted 15-20 minutes

...

Beevers said Tillman was killed by enemy fire, but he had no information about what type of weapons were involved in the assault, or whether he died instantly.

An Afghan militiaman fighting alongside Tillman also was killed, and two other U.S. soldiers were wounded. A local Afghan commander, Gen. Khial Bas, told The Associated Press that nine enemy fighters were killed in the confrontation.

Now--Whats interesting here, first of all, is how complete and detailed the story is, and how soon they came up with it after Tillmans death. He had been killed on Friday the 23rd, and this story was in print on the following Monday. To recap,
1) Tillman and his patrol took hostile fire. {a lie. We now know there was none.}
2) They got out of their vehicles and moved toward where the fire was coming from. {Would you do that? Most combat soldiers would get the hell out of there in their nice armored vehicles & call in air strikes or something.}
3) There was a sustained firefight for 15 or 20 minutes. {Totally fabricated.}
4) Two other US soldiers were wounded in the action, and an Afghan soldier was killed. {Really?}
5) Nine enemy fighters were killed in the fight. {But we dont know what kind of weapons they had.}

They quote an Afghan commander, Gen. Khial Bas. Wouldnt it be interesting to talk to him? They also report two US soldiers being wounded. Were any WIAs reported that day? Lets find them and talk to them.

It just seems to me that there are a lot of loose ends there, and somebody ought to start pulling on those loose ends, just to see what happens.

1. The two other wounded Rangers were also injured by "friendly fire".
After killing Tillman, at least one of the same Rangers turned his guns on a village where witnesses say civilian women and children had gathered. The shooters raked it with fire, the American witnesses said; they wounded two additional fellow Rangers, including their own platoon leader.

Of course, this didn't come out until Nov 2006.

There has been a massive cover-up for SEVERAL reasons, apparently.

But the latest hearing with Rummy showed that we will never find out, at least not FROM such hearings.

3. What a tall tale
No doubt it explains the urgent need for executive privilege.

A agree with you that the original manufacturednews report is very, very troubling.
On another thread I asked about the so called Afghan commander Gen. Bas? Who is he? Does he exist? Did he ever exist?
