Torture and repeal of habeas corpus: check, approved!

Iraq escalation: check, approved!

Illegal spying: check, approved!

Bush rules!

To Congress: You've already abdicated your oversight responsibilities so enjoy your vacation.

6. No, it is like this.
Lee Atwater and Rove figured it out long ago.

Most Americans are clueless idiots with very short, media-disabled attention spans.

Imagine each outrageous issue as a book being pushed slowly off the edge of a table.

Right as the book gets to the critical point, right before it falls, quit pushing.

Then start pushing another one off the table in a different spot.

Stop at the same critical point.

Get another book.

And another and another.

By the time you get back to the first book, the dumbass public will have added more edge to the table, in effect expanding the table.

So you start all over agin, using the expanded edge.

You can get away with all kinds of crap that way.

To get back to the middle of the table is next to impossible.

15. OK? I have got fucking mell-ah-no-mah.
Started out with this crusty little thing on the outside of my left ankle.

Those fucking doctors are decidedly non-optimistic.

Pretty fucking shitty week.

Fuck it.

I will sleep when I'm dead (with apologies to Warren Zevon).

13. Good analogy
Well, it was a nice country while it lasted.

And the saddest part is, as per your theory, we'll never hear about any of this on TeeVee, save the basic facts.

I can't take any more tonight.

7. I think we'd be better of if they stayed away.....at least we'd
know what we're going to get in the future but maybe we could hang onto what little it is that we have left. Why did this FISA bill HAVE to be voted on now? Is it too late to get on the Sunday talk programs? It just disappears, doesn't it? I'm just ranting. No reply necessary. eom

21. It's been going on for years
When Republicans are in control and over-step and over-reach, Democrats do not correct it or push back when they regain control. The American Citizen loses, and is pushed further into only being a Subject of the Corporate Government.

We will have a Democratic Administration after Fuzz Nuts Administration exits. Nothing will be investigated or corrected, just like when the same 'players,' who are presently molesting this country, were allowed to go free after the RayGun and H.W. Administrations.

Everything that has been done under Republican Rule will never be pushed back, when Democrats reclaim power. It becomes the 'norm' and under Democratic Rule, the push to the right only levels out, without any blow back or even push back, until the next push right under Republican control. Then, we will see another shove to the right, and we continue to escalate further into a Totalitarian State. But all is well, because your government is allegedly working as it was designed to.

26. It almost feels like the end is near.
First I thought it was crazy how fast the Republicans were just saying " fuck you America " and things were getting out of hand. But now to see even the Democrats pretty much doing the same thing to their own supporters, I just feel like none of them care if we know whats going on. Its like they know that by the time the rest of America gets away from the tv it will be too late and we will have no power to change course. Dont they realize how many people are in this country and the destruction that will take place, it wont be stopped because our troops will be in Iraq and Iran. So what do they think that will leave them with. Well I guess they could pay another countries military to come watch over us?

I check in on this site and a couple others because you need to open your ears and listen, but damn, this shit just makes me sicker and sicker every time they get away with something else. Please make it stop!

27. "I just feel like none of them care if we know whats going on."
Exactly! Whatever happened to an informed citizenry? How are we to participate in the process if there goal is to keep the facts away from as many people as possible. The Repubs are good at deception and thrive on public ignorance, we don't need a segment of the Democrats aiding them in that endeavor.

Welcome superkia!

28. On transparency:
From Marty Lederman, Helpful FISA Posts:

...Then check out this post by Publius at Obsidian Wings (it's a great site even when hilzoy is on vacation): "The White House bill includes some minimal hoops the government must first jump through, but to call them toothless is an insult to those without teeth. As those with children know, bare-gum chomps can still hurt the finger."

Publius's focus is on the lack of transparency -- the fact that we haven't had a public debate about whether the government should be able to freely listen in on all our foreign communications. Perhaps that's something that doesn't bother Americans much in this age -- who knows?:

It’s pretty clear that the administration wants the authority to conduct electronic surveillance basically anywhere and anytime for anti-terrorism purposes. Perhaps I’m naïve, but I think they’re motivated by good intentions. R egardless though, if you want this type of power, come out and say it. Let’s have a debate on that specific question.

Maybe privacy is quaint in the age of digitally-enabled terror. Maybe we need to rely on the political process (i.e., elections) for protection. I disagree with both views, but we should at least have that debate. Say what you will about John Yoo, he at least doesn’t pull punches. He wants a vast expansion of executive power and doesn’t try to dress it up in different clothes.

But "different clothes" is exactly what we got with the FISA debate. We got the White House spokesman pretending to affirm strong privacy and civil rights protections. We got a bunch of meaningless oversight procedures that do nothing but give the appearance of oversight. That’s not how democracy is supposed to work. More to the point, democracy can’t work when the terms of important debates are cloaked in dishonesty and Kabuki.

From More Tales from the "Unitary" Executive (or, What's Going On with the FISA Fix/Mess?):

Quite a way to run the greatest democracy in the world, eh? Keep in mind that FISA was crafted after three years of intensive and comprehensive -- and public -- hearings, debates, and negotiations. This bill? Not so much. And it shows in the finished product. What's that old adage about legislation and sausage? We need some meat inspectors here .

29. I've been a Democrat all my long life
However, the Democratic party just lost my trust, because of their rubber-stamping for George Bush. I've never seen such wusses as the cave-in dems, handing everything to this corrupt Bush
Administration, with no apologies. They screwed us, big time; shame on them.

I don't want any more letters from the Dems asking me for a contribution; those days are over!!!!!! I'm finished.....so they'd just better save their postage.
