But I did hate his smoke-filled interviews.

on edit - I hated the smoke park - not the interview part.

2. I loved the "Tomorrow Show"
You won't see people smoking during interviews on TV anymore that's for sure. The interviews were very candid, unscripted and very unpredictable.

6. Goddamit
I really liked that man. He could be an ass but he was one of the best interviewers ever. He let Lennon be Lennon. He made Johnny Rotten behave. He was the only person that was able to reign in Charles Manson.

I was so pissed when that jerk Craig Kilborn took over his time slot but if that hadn't happened, Jon Stewart would not be hosting The Daily Show.

I'll miss you, Tom. They are firing up the Colortinis in heaven now.

I had the pleasure of talking to him once on his radio show. I called in and was so excited to speak with him. As a kid I watched him on television. He was so cool and funny -- so much fun to watch and listen to. I'm losing my icons. It's no fun living without them.

Good night Tom I'll miss watching your colorful pictures as they fly through the air

13. How sad.. I was so pissed when they ruined his show (Rona barrett) and then cancelled it
He was the BEST interviewer EVER!

I always hoped that David Letterman's clout might create a new opportunity for him.. He had more talent in his pinkie fingernail than all the CNN/MSRNCers combined..

and he dearly loved his "Mother Snyder",.

15. If you missed the one with him and Julia Child...
you missed a classic. She was cooking a chicken, he was 'helping', and they drank a bottle of wine while doing it and were half sloshed when they finished the dish and the show! He was big when I was in college, and being a night owl I watched him a lot. Rest in Peace, Tom!

16. Tom Snyder, TV Talk Host, Dies at 71
Tom Snyder, who pioneered an in-depth, conversational interviewing style on late-night television, died Sunday at his home in San Francisco. He was 71.

The cause was complications associated with leukemia, the Associated Press reported, citing Mr. Snyder’s longtime producer and friend, Mike Horowicz.

As the host of NBC’s “Tomorrow Show,” Mr. Snyder introduced a highly personal style that would have a strong influence on many television interviewers who followed, especially those on cable television.

Mr. Snyder, with a cigarette in hand, would lean in toward his guests and aggressively extract information, as if he were putting on a performance. He was happy to follow his guests wherever they might go, relishing digressions that often turned his interviews into conversations.
