Mother Accused of Killing Unborn Child
Mother Accused of Killing Unborn Child
Published: 7/30/07, 12:25 AM EDT

OCEAN CITY, Md. (AP) - Investigators are continuing their search at the home of a mother charged with killing her unborn child, Ocean City police said.

Police would not comment on what investigators were searching for, but said because of the size and complexity of the crime scene they have asked the FBI's Evidence Response Team to assist in collecting evidence.

"Investigators have still not completed their search of the property. They are still actively searching for additional evidence in this case," police said in a statement Sunday.

Christy Freeman, 37, lived in the apartment with her boyfriend and her four other children.

Freeman was hospitalized Thursday and police were called after medical personnel determined she had been pregnant, but the child was missing. Police said they obtained a search warrant for Freeman's home after interviewing her, and a small body was found wrapped in a blanket in the apartment.

1. If it's unborn, it is not a child yet. More media propaganda. nt

9. If it's unborn, they're not going to find it in the house. It was born.
Unless, as someone below said, she had a blanket in her uterus.

2. Was Roe v. Wade Overturned While I Was Out Bicycling Today?
A prosecution for infanticide would require a live birth — the absence of which is stipulated by the use of the word "unborn".

Abortion was legal, last time I checked.

This was either an abortion or a miscarriage, neither of which is a crime.

3. Criminalizing an abortion?
This sounds pretty horrific, but the ramifications of calling this a killing if the child is unborn starts us down the path of unintended consequences. Technically, we would criminalize a lot of women (and men who would be accessories)....and I don't think there's a statue of limitation on killing....

the mother will be prosecuted. Will be interesting to see what the autopsy shows and other details.

6. Autopsy will show if the lungs ever inflated, which equals a live birth.
Thanks to the efforts of wingnuts, the interpretation of the law is way too convoluted. However, that never excuses infanticide, which is what this could well be.

7. Does "unborn" now mean "born"?

8. Indeed. I didn't even catch that. If the baby was outside the womb, it was born
What the heck are these people talking about. Do they think she had someone sock her in the stomach, and then gave birth to a dead child?

10. It's a heavily regulated procedure, always has been
Edited on Mon Jul-30-07 05:11 AM by cgrindley
there are a lot of laws regarding abortion, and there always have been, to believe that you have unencumbered abortion on demand and that such a procedure could be provided by anyone at anytime is erroneous. It is a tightly controled medical procedure.

ON edit. this wasn't supposed to be a reply to your message, but to the one above yours. My chair to keyboard interface screwed up.

5. The woman had a blanket in her uterus??
If they found a child wrapped in a blanket, it was BORN... was it stillborn? did it die during childbirth?

This sounds like more from the Republican Crotch Squad..
