Ed Schultz (Jones Radio) thinks DU is a "kook website."
Today (7/23), about half way through Schultz' second hour, he received a call from someone who said they were a member of an anti-war group and, as such, were somewhat concerned about bush's 7/17 executive order giving him and his cabal authority to freeze assets of anyone they alone deemed to be "threatening the peace or stability of Iraq or the Government of Iraq; or undermining efforts to promote economic reconstruction and political reform in Iraq or to provide humanitarian assistance to the Iraqi people."

(You can read the actual text of the order here.)

This has been a hot topic of discussion on numerous sites as well as some mainstream media editorials. It has been the subject of numerous threads here on DU, such as this.

Schultz said nothing at all about the caller's concerns, as if he was completely unaware of the executive order. Instead, he just hung up on him, said "You shouldn't get your information from kook websites," and went on to the next call.

Makes you wonder if Schultz is carrying water for bush again or simply unprepared and ignorant of any subject that doesn't revolve around himself (or provide an opportunity for him to drop names.)

in the OP, either. I think it's just an "inference" by the OP that Ed didn't want to discuss it that he was dissing DU when he really never mentioned our site.

4. disappointed
I've generally liked Ed, and charging that he's been "carrying water for Bush" is absurd. But sadly, he's way off base here. I don't quite understand how and why he'd make that statement. He should know better.

They have him on from 11-3 in Madison, and this is a place that can handle the farthest left available. Ed makes me PUKE. :puke: And I don't want to hear about his goddamn fishing stories.

24. I have to agree with you, still_one.
I listen to Ed if I'm in the car during the noon-3:00 Pacific time slot, as they don't run Randi's show on the local AAR station until 5:00.

Ed frustrates me sometimes, but I do agree that he reaches an audience that wouldn't listen to Randi or Mike Malloy.

When I listen to Ed, I think of my two brothers, both of whom voted for Bush. Haven't talked politics with either of them in the longest, so I don't know if their opinion of him has changed, but if I wanted to introduce them to more left-leaning talk radio, I would have them listen to Ed first. I think they could identify with him and his views far more easily.

Edited on Mon Jul-23-07 08:43 PM by undeterred
and those two and Mike Malloy (who is no longer Air America) are carried here. Thom Hartman is a million times smarter than Ed Schultz, and Ed puts down an awful lot of people who those of us on the left like. I would infinitely prefer listening to Hartman.

Ed has this "I don't give a damn" attitude about who he offends which is really hard to put up with from someone who isn't actually all that bright or all that far to the left. I'm just sick of him.

50. Actually, as bad as it sounds,
I like the fact that he's on here. Yes, Madison is a good liberal city, and I love living and working in this area. However, there *are* red enclaves in various spots, especially outside Dane County, and the signal gets out there a little bit anyway. If he reaches at least a handful of the people here still whacked enough to have a damned "W" sticker on their car, he's worth having around.

Madison does also have Limbaugh and local right-wing harpy Vicki McKenna on 1310 AM. If we can siphon listeners away from THAT cesspool...

11. Please show me where he specifically said DU is a "kook website"
I also disagree with you the he is carrying water for bush, no way. He is one of the biggest advocates for impeachment

schultz may not be your cup of tea, but he does attract independents, and that isn't bad.

I have heard Randy also hang up on callers when she didn't understand where they were coming from, and the callers were NOT coming from a right wing perspective either

schultz also does not screen his calls, and it isn't easy when you don't necessarily know what topic the caller is going to present

Ed needs to spend less time on the lake and eating steaks, and a
little more time doing some research on various topics. I don't expect him to be a research fiend like Randi Rhodes, but soometimes, the things he says, or the things he seems completely unaware of, just boggle my mind.

could be included in the order. Ed did cut him off saying that it wasn't true and said he needed to quick reading kooky web sites. Ed did sound like he was familiar with the order. I am not a Ed fan, but don't believe your portrayl of the exchange is accurate. There wasn't any mention of DU or any other web site. The caller offered to name it, but never did.

Edited on Mon Jul-23-07 09:21 PM by nolabels
They moved his show to the AM dial non-listening time 7 to 9 pm or something and it looks to be not a big loss and maybe a gain in some ways. He might be a good guy and everything but his imagined self-importance wears on person after a while. Not that everybody doesn't have a little bit of that narcissist trait in them but to wear it around your neck like it's jewelry just kind of seems wrong
