Mindy McCready is free on $1,000 bond after a weekend arrest on misdemeanor charges that she scratched her mother on the face during a scuffle and resisted sheriff's deputies, authorities said.

McCready's mother, Melody Inge, called Lee County sheriff's deputies shortly after 1 a.m. Saturday to report the 31-year-old country singer was intoxicated and causing a disturbance, an arrest report said. The report said McCready scratched Inge on the face during the disturbance.

"I was holding my baby at the time," said McCready of her 15-month-old son. "They tackled me. They didn't give any directions. They just tackled. There was no reason for it. To take down a woman holding a baby, it's just not right."

I hate all prejudices, but why are people looked down on because they come from poor backgrounds, or live in poverty? Isn't one of our main candidates touring the country to put a human face on the poverty problem? Can't you see them as people?

She has substance abuse problems, and that often is the result of deep-seated psychological issues that have nothing to do with a person's income level. These problems may force them into poverty situations, but aren't always caused by the poverty.

(AP) Troubled country singer Mindy McCready has been hospitalized in Florida after an overdose.

McCready, 28, was found unconscious Friday in a hotel lobby, according to authorities in Pinellas County, Fla. An incident report did not list the nature of the overdose.

Last week, McCready was charged in Arizona with identity theft and other counts. Within the past two years, she has also faced allegations of driving under the influence and a drug violation.
