Flip-floppin' Romney: Hillary Clinton is "IN WITH KARL MARX"
Edited on Sun Jul-22-07 09:09 PM by Bluebear

NASHUA, N.H. --Presidential hopeful Mitt Romney took aim at Democratic rivals on Sunday, calling them all unprepared to lead the country and comparing Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's economic plan to that of Socialist Karl Marx.

"It would be helpful to have a person leading the country who understands how the economy works and has actually managed something," the former Massachusetts governor told reporters after a GOP fundraiser. "In the case of the three Democratic front-runners, not one of them has managed even a corner store, let alone a state or a city."

Romney, who leads Republicans in New Hampshire, has focused his criticism in recent weeks on Clinton, Sen. Barack Obama and former Sen. John Edwards rather than rival Republicans. It's a strategy he hopes will help him maintain his lead over Sen. John McCain and former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani....

"Hillary Clinton just gave a speech the other day about her view on the economy. She said we have been an on-your-own society. She said it's time to get rid of that and replace that with shared responsibility and we're-in-it-together society," Romney told the crowd. "That's out with Adam Smith and in with Karl Marx."

A Clinton spokeswoman shot back, challenging Romney's record. "Given how often Romney flip-flops, tomorrow he will be touting his membership in the Communist Party," Kathleen Strand said.

2. Will Hillary grow a beard, so she looks like Marx?
Or a mustache to look like the other Marx?

3. Red baiting is so mid-twentieth-century.
Sad thing is, most people don't know enough about Marx OR McCarthyism for this to matter much.

I wanna see Romney get the Repug nomination, just so Hillary or Barack or whoever the Democrats nominate can run all over him. That'd be satisfying to see this Repug's ass kicked all the way back to Utah.

UPON EDIT: I'd also like to mention how amusing it is that Romney really hates the idea of helping other people, or thinking about people other than yourself. He seems to think that if you aren't a die-hard "Personal accountability, dog eat dog, poor people are lazy - rich people work hard" type of person, than you're a commie.

5. That's OK. Nobody is paying any attention to Mittens anyway.
I laugh every time I hear a new poll on TV. Mittens has never even been in the top 3 except for money raising!

6. In with Karl Marx?
I would personally consider that a great compliment. I admire Marx.

9. That's actually unintentionally ironic ...
... "That's out with Adam Smith and in with Karl Marx." Of course, Marx read Smith extensively, and produced a huge set of manuscripts based largely on his writings. Marx knew that Capital eventually moved away from free-market principles espoused by Smith, and became coercive. If you want to talk about socialism, how about the corporate socialism/welfare that drives, for example, the half-trillion dollar military industry?

10. He's desperate
He's cranking up the rhetoric, Throwing around hyperbole just to see if anything sticks.

He's in the last throes of his campaign. Maybe he can spend the next 18 months with Cheney in an undisclosed location.

11. Smith, like Orwell, is often misunderstood by the RW
I doubt he would have thrown in with chuckleheads like Romney. A quote from Mr. Smith:

"The proposal of any new law or regulation which comes from , ought always to be listened to with great precaution, and ought never to be adopted till after having been long and carefully examined, not only with the most scrupulous, but with the most suspicious attention. It comes from an order of men, whose interest is never exactly the same with that of the public, who have generally an interest to deceive and even to oppress the public, and who accordingly have, upon many occasions, both deceived and oppressed it."

Hmmm... does that sound like laissez faire? Not to me. And then there's this:

"All for ourselves, and nothing for other people, seems, in every age of the world, to have been the vile maxim of the masters of mankind." It seems Mr. Smith is no friend of the aristocracy or the ruling class. And lastly, guess who said this:

"Civil government, so far as it is instituted for the security of property, is in reality instituted for the defense of the rich against the poor, or of those who have some property against those who have none at all." Hint: It's either Smith or Marx, and it's not Marx.

So, Mr. Romney, which of these statements do you agree with the most?

14. Gee, Mr. Kreepy Kristianist Kultist, you say that like it's a bad thing...
The so-called "free market" Reagan idolaters and corporate lick-spittles have had their chance and failed miserably.

Perhaps now it's time to put some of Karl's ideas into practice?
