Bush feels betrayed, sides with Gutierrez
When you thought it couldn't be more unbelieveable
http://opensourceactivist.org/r_mail/2007/02-05-bush_gutierrez_betrayal.php

George Bush feels betrayed by Republicans on immigration, according to an article by Stephen Dinan in Sunday's Washington Times about the president's appearance at the Democrats' annual retreat. When Illinois Democratic Representative Luis Gutierrez complained to the president that Republicans were going to the voters with the immigration issue, President Bush sided —really sided—with the Democrat, telling him, "You are not the only one with arrows in your back."

Karmic feedback.

No tears from this part of the gallery. None. At. All.

4. the senate sure has his back
that's what happens when you drag in co-conspirators - they stick by you until they can't.

and they still can.

he's getting poked in the back - arrows look like impeachment.

5. Immigration is the exception
He's used to seeing the Congressional Republicans do as they're told. For example, they make speeches denouncing deficit spending but don't make any serious effort to rein him in.

The immigration issue is the rare case where significant numbers of Republicans won't go along with him. I can understand his feeling betrayed. How was he to know that they might actually start thinking for themselves?

6. Seems to be the one issue they couldn't get past the bigoted instincts
of their base.

Bush wanted a softer immigrant policy to help his corporate cronies, but the rednecks at home weren't buying, so the Pubby Panderers couldn't deliver.

7. "arrows in his back" is a relative term
Kind of like when he says "hard work."

12. he must really feel betrayed ...because "dagger in the back"
... would at least imply that the person had gotten close enough to touch him! (Unless the dagger is tied to an 11-foot pole, that is.)
