Poll question: An UnOfficial DU "Last Straw" Straw Poll On Impeachment !!!
Edited on Sat Jul-21-07 10:25 AM by WillyT
While many of us here have been promoting the idea of Impeachment (pick your poison: Bush, Cheney, Gonzales), there have been quite a number who have counsel against it. Yet over the last couple of months, or several weeks if you prefer, I've seen many a post that went something like, "That's it. Enough. I am now onboard the Impeachment Train."

So I'm curious, and this IS NOT intended as any type of "I told you so" post, but rather an attempt to gage if folks here are in our little political microcosm are changing their minds about Impeachment. And if so... when did you change your mind, and what was your "final straw"?

For me... although I started tossing the "I" word around after the 2004 elections, I really started seriously considering it a viable option after Katrina.

You?

1. I've been hoping for it ever since the 2004 "election."
There is NO WAY Dubya should have won Ohio. It was fixed.

3. 2000 was fixed, too. And not just by the Supreme Court.

9. Agreed. But I was willing to have faith in the system back then.
After all, in 2000, I was only 17 - never voted, never particularly though beyond the city of Boulder. I wasn't angry about the 2000 fixing until Chimpy invaded Iraq in 2003. The 2004 election, the first Presidential election I ever voted in, made me even angrier because I could SEE it being fixed for Shrub.

15. If you'd seen this, you would've been pissed in 2000, too

What they did to black voters in Florida was unforgivable.

4. The ivasion of Iraq was a war crime on its face
I've been for impeachment since then, but then I've never regarded Bush as the legitimate president. Impeachment is to humor those deluded into thinking that he is. It should suffice to throw his belongings out on the White House lawn and the squatter, face first, after them. He can hoof it back to Crawford.

5. Congress will not impeach and convict.
I wish it would (there've been plenty of illegal activities to choose from) but it isn't going to. I'm so confident in this that I have promised to eat and entire RAW cow's liver if they do.

I started wishing at the warrantless NSA spying news. Wishin' ain't gettin'.

7. for me, the dereliction of duty in New Orleans was an impeachable offense
so, since then I've seen no other sane option.

When our own citizens are left to die and the govt PREVENTS aid from reaching them, the administration should have been impeached.

8. Well to be honest, I've been hoping for it since
the dancing supremes made them king in 2000. But I never thought it would get off the ground until after the 2006 elections. I knew the immoral and Un-American repukes would never vote their king down. I thought the Democratic Congress would put it on the table when they had a peak at what the king was hiding under his robes.

14. I was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt at first
It was clear very early that he was going to be a bad president, but I didn't think he should be impeached until he committed the supreme international crime...a war of aggression.

22. sorry to be a pain in the butt
but I've gone back and forth on it.

At the moment i feel that it is an obligation to impeach Bush and Cheney, whether or not it is a good idea politically.

On the other hand, along the way it has occurred to me that keeping them in office demonstrates to America the real dangers of the unitary executive philosophy. In a way, I don't want America to move forward without learning this very hard lesson, for risk that we might go through this whole thing again someday, and pay an even higher price. It seems that there are still some who don't realize what this all means.

So, I didn't vote in the poll.

on this site, they must be either a closet freeper or clinically insane.

29. Impeachment is not important to me.
Edited on Mon Jul-23-07 09:03 AM by bmbmd
Investigation, arrest, trial, conviction, and imprisonment are what I seek. Any thing which imperils the likelyhood of those two bastards, plus Scalia, Roberts, and Thomas-being thrown in the tanks is counterproductive.

going to war in Iraq was a criminal act, but congress in its alleged wisdom gave him cover to do that.
