Sen. Carl Levin criticizes Iraqis for not giving up their oil fast enough
The most excruciating thing about the Bush administration's http://professorsmartass.blogspot.com/2007/03/juhasz-whose-oil-is-it-anyway.html">oil theft law they are forcing on the Iraqis is not the silence of most Democrats in Congress about it, but that even in the midst of calling for our troops to withdraw, DEMOCRATS demand that Iraqis pass the law that will give over 80% of their oil income to big oil companies, as Levin did during a speech on his own troop withdrawal bill:

The Iraqi leaders agreed to approve the hydrocarbon law by October 2006 as well. That too has not been accomplished. They didn’t do what they had promised they would do.

I would like to believe Levin and others like him who voted for including passage of the http://professorsmartass.blogspot.com/2007/03/juhasz-whose-oil-is-it-anyway.html">Hydrocarbon Law in the benchmarks in their Iraq bill are just ignorant, but it isn't true. When they say Bush has mismanaged the war, they aren't being euphemistic and pussyfooting around saying he shouldn't have gone in at all--they really mean me mismanaged invading Iraq and giving its oil to American corporations with enough subtly and finesse that the Iraqis didn't complain too much--if that's even possible.

http://www.handsoffiraqioil.org/2007/07/hundreds-of-iraqis-protest-draft-oil.html">Just this Monday, 5oo Iraqis in Basra were protesting this law Levin is demanding they pass.
If we want to teach the Iraqis something about democracy, we should refrain from telling them what laws to pass about their oil, especially when they have a gun to their head.

1. Has anyone really considered the abject perpetual poverty the hydrocarbon bill will
cause for some 23 million Iraqis or even give a shit for that matter? This heist will put the Axis invasions and occupations to shame.

2. are you sure he's not talking about the revenue
sharing oil law that divides the revenue amongst the three iraqi factions? there ARE two laws in question you know. the bad law for iraqis is the privatization law, not the revenue sharing one.

just saying . . .

13. 80% of the oil goes to the US and Great Britian (Exxon and BP).
It's only the remaining 20% that has anything to do with revenue sharing.

They must share the small portion that won't be stolen from them according to Sen. Levin.

4. this 'oil law'
ia being written about widely in Arab newspapers, seems to be viewed, as you say, as the "oil theft" law. Great to see our media doing it's usual dismal job of reporting.

6. I went to see the Iraqi oil workers when they came to LA, it was pretty sad
people asked if the parliament would pass it, and they didn't say the parliament was a puppet government or corrupt, they just said they were too weak to stand up to Bush, the IMF, and all the different pressures being placed on them.

16. for some reason, it would have been more comforting to hear they were just Bush puppets
because then maybe they could assert their independence when they had 'real' elections.

7. They're all a bunch of thieves, stealing Iraq's resources in the name of "national security"
I don't know why anybody would think that the bespectacled old bastard Levin would be any different.

It's not in Irael's best interest to let the Arabs keep their oil.

This is what the Invasion of Afghanistan & Iraq are about.
