Holy Moley.....(NYT Letter to the editor on global warming)
The writer is obviously deranged and psychotic and misses the point. Let me try to explain it to her in words she can understand: Honey, your trust fund grandkids will be just as dead as your servants grandkids.

Read the rest here: http://www.nytimes.com/2007/02/06/opinion/l06warm.html?_r=1&oref=slogin

To the Editor:

As usual, the fashionable view eventually becomes tyrannical and will no longer permit debate. It looks now as if the momentum of the global-warming evangelists is unstoppable.

You state in your Feb. 3 front-page article that the United States accounts for 5 percent of the world’s population and 25 percent of the world’s emissions. Somewhere between consuming and emitting fossil fuels is that thing called United States economic growth, which continues to be a boon to the world — for 2006, a sparkling 3.4 percent.

Some say they don’t want their children to have to cope with the alleged nightmare of climate change, but I am far sadder that my children will have to cope with the reduced richness of opportunity that will exist at every socioeconomic level in an economy crippled by restricted access to the energy that powers it.

It will be a sad sight to watch the spectacular American private-sector engine and the optimistic innovativeness that has always been its hallmark diminished for want of fuel.

Margaret McGirr
Greenwich, Conn., Feb. 3, 2007

2. Yeah its a sad sight indeed

Letters like this one. Sadder still that we've tied our fates as a nation to our energy supplies. 10,000 years ago two sticks and the means to light them up was all the world needed. Tides, winds and sun can move turbines and power motors and engines. Get busy and stop whining. Due to man's famous arrogance and perhaps innate need to procrastinate this has come to a head. If you value your children's future at all now is the time for sacrifice.

7. I think it's the automony of the climate science field that is under seige
Edited on Tue Feb-06-07 10:25 AM by Strawman
from big oil and dumb fucks who don't believe in science. Not vice versa.

Any scientific field is supposed to reject hacks and outsiders. It's a virtue, not a vice. The burden of proof is ALWAYS on those who reject the core consensus of a field, and that's as it should be. James Inhofe's specualation does not deserve the same degree of respect as the consensus of a field of research scientists. Sorry fundie morons, it doesn't work that way.
