1. The Dems will be watching
If enough Repugs leave the scene, they can call for a floor vote on cloture (stopping the filibuster). If the Repugs are gone, the Dems have the cloture votes to stop the filibuster.

4. Democrats need 60 votes to proceed, the minority doesn't need 41
All they need is one senator to object to a unanimous consent motion that would bring the bill up for a vote.

6. Ok, then there's the reason the repukes can't all go home and go to bed
There would be no one left to object.

13. So what?
Are we gonna keep two senators there for this "all night session" one to call for cloture, the other to object?

7. Why won't they just vote to bring troops home?
Are they so out of touch with their own constituents that they think it would still be an issue with them?

10. and why are they so loyal to Bush?
It's not like he can be elected President again--usually congresscritters abandon a lame duck with low poll numbers.
