It was supposed to be a cakewalk, like taking candy from a baby.
Saddam's army had been decimated. They had no air power at all and almost no logistical backup. It could not be easier. Republicans would be heroes, war heroes no less, it would set up a permanent Republican Majority....Now after almost five years ,considerably more than either WW I or WW II, it is totally unmanageable. Funny thing how occupying another country involves more than just a few military victories. Without at least minimal support from the people they become powerless. It is quite a mess, no lie. In fact it is to the point where their manhood is on the line. How are they going to reverse this decline in esteem? Something dramatic is most definitely called for. A terrorist attack on American soil would be seen as just one more failure of Republican government. Something has to be done though and damn soon. What do we even have nukes for if we can't use them? A gulf of Tonkin incident in the Straits of Hormuz would do the trick and by God this time they won't hold back. There has to be a clear and concise victory. This is their last chance or Republicans can hang it up for at least a decade. Iran has the third largest oil reserve known at this time. It could be ours in a heartbeat. Eight to twelve nukes should do it. Let the world know we mean business. We are bad ass MoFos and fuck everyone else...As Madeline Albrecht once said "What is the good of having such a splendid military if we can't use it?" Iran is in real danger of complete annihilation. These people are insane. Their manhood is at stake......The time is getting very scary.. It will be a cakewalk....

1. Republican insanity: I think it's inherent in the party.
You're so right. Republicans lack anything like true humanity, so must raise their testosterone levels with eternal war.

Proud to be the first rec.

2. it is my fervent hope
that we have some people in the military who will just say no. I believe the orders may be given, but without a huge sell-job they cannot convince the chain of command that they are legal orders. Despite the fact that they DID follow orders to invade a country that had not attacked us, I can accept that they were sold a bill of goods. They know that now, and I cannot believe there won't be an Elliot Richardson among them who will just say hell, no! and publicize it.

3. If one of our ships is hit with a cruise missile will you say don't hit back?
All of America will say "get them bastards" "glass em", how dare they strike an American war ship. It will be years if not centuries before the truth comes out. American special ops fired the missile which they had captured or purchased from Iran...

4. a 'false flag' event is a very high probability
I am personally skeptical enough that I would, indeed, say get the facts before any response. While it would be devasting if a warship were taken out, with hundreds (thousands?) of casualties, there would not be an imperative to retaliate instantaneously. Unless we were facing an invasion, or a slew of attacks that made clear it was all-out war, we would have plenty of time to examine carefully and respond appropriately. That, of course, is exactly NOT what the administration would do. But the quicker they were with giving the order, the more skeptical should be the brass.

5. Iraq Test Run
They learned so much from this four year test run that I'm sure when they invade Iran they will get it right this time.

My gut tells me the Iranians really will greet us with flowers this time.

And I think the requisite reinstatement of THE DRAFT to fight this Second War will be a wonderful thing for bringing this country together. George has what, 17 months, to show he really is a uniter, not a divider, after all!
