Breaking: Joe Wilson endorses Hillary Clinton
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/taylor-marsh/breaking-jos...

The blogs got it first.

"I'm delighted to fight the fight with her. ... The person who has always reached out to us has been Hillary. ... I think Hillary is a fighter. ... She is a wonderful individual. ... More diplomacy the better. There is no daylight between us on Iran." -- former ambassador Joseph Wilson.

A conference call announcing the endorsement of Hillary Clinton by Joseph Wilson was just held with bloggers to hear the breaking news. This is a huge deal for Candidate Clinton and a big endorsement for her candidacy. That it was broken on the blogs sends a powerful signal. I'll provide the transcript as soon as it is available.

Wilson has known Clinton for over a decade. He said she is not the aloof rock star that walks on stage, gives her speech, then walks off with her bodyguards without feeling or thought. "She's been a policy wonk since she was 21 and in school." Wilson believes Clinton is the one that understands the adversary we're all facing and will fight for us better than the rest of the field. "This is not a job interview," said Wilson, in response to the possibility of being in a Clinton administration.

Wilson's been a hero here for two years, and now he's a repug because he endorses Hillary. The haters crack me up.

Good for clinton - this is a nice endorsement.

Now he's a Repug?

Pretty funny. And yes, this is a good endorsement for Senator Clinton to have.

Edited on Mon Jul-16-07 01:41 PM by liberaldemocrat7
My vote goes to Edwards and I live in New York.

Someone has to repeal this crap Medicare Part D program and put the benefit in part B at no extra cost, covering 80 percent of medication.
I haven't seen Hillary lift a finger to do so.

73. FDR was not "FDR" in 1932....
FDR became the legend he is now(deservedly so) because of his performance in office...

In fact, he was considered something of a lightweight in 1932, with a platform that emphasized balancing the budget, and one that was was not much different than Hoover's...

114. I am an Edwards fan, however,
in a change of stance, I now believe I would vote for Hillary if she is the candidate. I think she is too center right on many issues. Her confrontation with Code Pink in her office right before the Iraq War was an absolutely shameless demonstration of arrogant error and stubbornness. If her conduct toward Code Pink is an example of her diplomatic skill with people who disagree with her, then I think she is no diplomat. Still, she is not Bush and not exactly, we hope, a neo-con extremist.

My real question about Hillary is whether she can conduct a national presidential campaign without becoming mired in Bill Clinton's past. I don't think she can. That is the primary reason that I think we need anyone but Hillary. and preferably Edwards (who I believe is the best candidate although I do not agree with his energy policy) as our candidate.

Hillary has so much name recognition, however, that she wins all the polls. I personally don't think the polls are accurate. I also think the polls should be weighted to allow consideration for Hillary's negatives which are almost as high as her positives. I fear that Hillary's negatives are very strongly entrenched in their beliefs.

But Joe Wilson is a former republican ... well, perhaps his "good sense" went off-line at the selfish prospect that he might score as good of Political Crony Appointment under HRC as he did Bill. :shrug:

Still, sadly disappointing and not helpful with regard to snagging centrists.

10. Interesting.
I had been under the impression for some time that Senator Clinton was aware of the issues involved in the Plame scandal, took a keen interest in learning more as details came to light, and was a source of support for the Wilsons. I think that his endorsement is important.

14. Yes H2OM but she refused to weigh in beforehand on whether or not LIbby should be pardoned or
have his sentence commuted. Thought this was odd....I think that her connection with an administration that pardoned others could easily have been deflected. Clinton never pardoned someone who was part of an investigation of his own office.

34. True.
I remember when Mr. Matthews attempted to get her to comment on the potential of a presidential pardon. I wish that she had taken a public stance.

I think that most democrats have enough other information about the issues the nation faces, and what type of leadership Senator Clinton offers, to decide on who they will support in the primaries. I don't think her failure to take a stance on the Libby pardon is likely to be a decidng factor -- it may confirm people's previously held positions about her, one way or the other. And I don't think that Wilson's endorsement will make any significant difference in the primaries. But it is an overall positive for her.

She did better in law school than Bill did. She's one very smart human bean. :)

But she's been caught up in marketing. For my part, I don't know who she is any more. I'd love to support her and can't and feel sort of upset about that.

I don't know how to explain this at all except, she's been so commercialized that to some of us, she doesn't seem to stand for anything. That's a problem.

If you guys nominate her, I won't vote for her. And I won't vote for her with all the regret of not voting for a Democrat and for a woman, at that. :(

106. I understand your principles, but let me ask you a question.
What exactly do you mean by "have just parted company?" Does that mean he's now a Puke boot-licker? Does that mean that his cause (i.e., Plamegate) is no longer just?

Or simply that you disagree with his endorsement and wish he hadn't done it?

If the latter, fine. If the former, then I think that's a bit extreme. We're still talking about DEMOCRATS, after all.

Both Clintons, no matter how much I like them, seem to me much too inclined to ignore what common people need and to facilitate the interests of corporations.

It doesn't work. If it did work, I swear I'd be running up to the Hillary bandwagon. Bill played my bro's sax on Arsenio. We have an investment here. :)

Bill messed us all up with NAFTA. Hillary seems to be firmly in the hands of handlers. Who is she?

I've BEEN a handler. And I guess that's why I'm worried about this campaign.

I'm nearly at the point where holding my nose is impossible. I keep trying to stay off that position. That's just where I am. :shrug:

22. Well, it only makes us question HIS motives. It doesn't make her look any more appealing.
Hell, Hillary could be endorsed by the Dalai Lama and it wouldn't change my view of her.

Any endorsement of her reflects more on the motives of the endorser than on Hillary. She does not reflect positions important to me and I cannot and will not support her.

Fred Hiatt's love note on today's Post op-ed page only further illustrates that she is firmly in the Neocon camp.

Edited on Mon Jul-16-07 01:44 PM by SaveElmer
That they previously admired, instead of stopping for a minute to think that person may have a point, they immediately, reflexively start in trashing that formerly admired person...

I happen to be sick to death of the triangulating (domestically) and pandering to Israel (internationally).

After the last 7 years, we need idealism not cynical pragmatism.

If you have answered this question already, I missed it. Perhaps you wouldn't mind answering again? BTW, I also am sick of pandering to Israel. However, I don't believe any of the candidates have stated any opposition to Israel. Could be the money they control.

It's sad when your first and second choices aren't running (Clark would be my second choice).

If neither get in, I'll have to do some soul searching - probably Edwards.

When that happens, I see no reason to stop respecting the individual OR to agree with their particular choice. Same thing with Al Gore being opposed to impeachment. I think the world of Al Gore, BUT I disagree with him on the issue of impeaching Bush and Cheney. Same here.

81. Does Hillary really want to take our troops out of harm's way??
Not if she pays any attention to her husband's hawkish (DLC) thinktank:

http://www.ppionline.org/ppi_ci.cfm?knlgAreaID=124&subs...

From as recently as October, 2006,

<snip>

America needs a bigger and better military.

<snip>

A stronger military is essential, but it should serve -- not substitute for -- a practical strategy for defeating jihadism.

<snip>

a political strategy that uses all of our might -- economic, cultural, diplomatic, as well as military -- to strengthen the forces of moderation and modernization in the Muslim world.

<snip>

America needs more allies in the fight. You don't have to read Machiavelli to know that safety lies in uniting your friends and dividing your enemies.

<snip>

Rejecting both Republican United Nations-bashing and the toothless multilateralism favored on the left,

<and on and on>
