Here is a chance to get on the record for who is most evil or most good

State of EvilScale
Updated 6.27.2007 by Kris

First off, I'd personally like to thank each and every one of you for visiting our little corner of the web. Traffic has been steadily increasing over the past few months as more and more people have discovered this site. Which brings me to my next point. Unfortunately the database server that this site was built on only allows so many concurent users. As traffic has increased, no doubt many of you have seen database errors proclaiming "User kriswd40 already has more than 'max_user_connections' active connections". My host unfortunately will not allow me any more connections despite my attempts to sway them with both my boyish charm and large bags of money. This has left me with no other choice than to change my hosting and convert the entire site to a new, better database. It is my hope to complete this process by the middle of July, at which point these errors should cease to be. In the mean time, if you see this error or other errors saying a nominee cannot be displayed, ussually if you want a few seconds and refresh the page, you should be fine.

Just to give you an idea of what lies ahead for Evilscale.com, the next major upgrade (after the host change) will be to add a forum to the website for member discussions. After that I plan to implement custom groups (like the Most Evil Presidents group under the Top Lists page) that can be created by any member of the site.

I am always open to suggestions on the site as well. You can use the contact form to email me any suggestions about improvements to the site or nominees you wish to see. Or if you sign up for membership, you can directly submit any nominees that you like.

Again, thank you for taking the time to visit the site and rank our nominees. I see Hillary is number one at the moment spurred by a recent wave of freerepublic.com visitors. Can she hold up against the likes of Hitler, Satan, and L.Ron Hubbard? Only time will tell.

Kris

1. Aparently, "evil" no longer means evil.
It now means a mere difference of opinion.

2. How day you say that! You must be pure evil!
Actually this is common enough even around here. Many people don't seem to understand the concept of Honest Disagreement.

4. Are suggesting that this article at that site is a fair assessment
....of what the Bush legacy will ultimately be?

Bush Will Stand the Test of Time
By Donald Lambro

Thursday, July 5, 2007

WASHINGTON -- With all the talk about President Bush's failed legacy by the nattering nabobs of negativism, one might think he won't have one.

Actually, he has cut a wide and often determined swath in the troubled course that history has dealt him, with 9/11 defining his presidency and the war-footing decade in which he has governed. Other big events, from the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq to several very large domestic initiatives he started and implemented, will have positive repercussions long after he has left office.

Perhaps it is a bit premature to talk of his legacy at this juncture in the twilight of his two-term presidency, because we cannot foretell the future. No one can say with any certainty what the last year and a half of his second term will hold, or whether the events that follow his presidency will vindicate his decision-making.

While the terrorist attacks in New York and Washington marked the first year of his presidency, his historic legacy will be about what he did in the aftermath to keep that from happening again -- at least on his watch.

Yikes!

3. Perhaps there is an evil intent on the part of the website to relativism of evil
...in this manner. I can't say. I am not advocating the site, I'm inviting discussion, input and clarification.

I can see your point that by using the vehicle of an opinion survey it diminishes the pure evil of Hitler, Mao, Stalin and others. Give people the facts about these monsters and then judge present day political leaders by the actions they take before assigning the title of evil. By the same token once evil has been determined and judged against former leaders like Hitler, Mao and Stalin it should forever remain in place never to be reduced or removed. I can agree with that concept and in fact believe that to be the a social axiom. Evil is always evil just as black is always black!

Having said that, Bush and Cheney are most definitely current contenders for most evil persons of power.

6. Oh sure, but this is what made me write my earlier remark.
"Again, thank you for taking the time to visit the site and rank our nominees. I see Hillary is number one at the moment spurred by a recent wave of freerepublic.com visitors. Can she hold up against the likes of Hitler, Satan, and L.Ron Hubbard? Only time will tell."

Okay, I'm pretty critical of HRC, but I do not recall her invading someone else's home a committing mass murder when she got there. Comparing her to Hitler is just plain silly. Satan is made-up and Hubbard was a science fiction writer, so I don't know what to say about them.

5. If we start framing people in terms of 'good and evil' aren't we...
... doing what the other side does? The right is always trying to make a bogeyman out of somebody - communist, terrorist, liberal, to make the world all simple and black-and-white. I don't see abstract forces like good and evil lurking in the background, just motives. And motives are very human - take greed for example. It shouldn't take you too long to connect that to the Iraq debacle. The principal actors are people like Bush and Cheney, who want to make money for their friends and family.

7. ...and of course mega-bucks for themselves, especially Darth Cheney
...who is becoming very rich! Evil motives coupled with evil acts makes for evil deeds.

8. A person who does evil things is evil.
Bogeymen are a way to distract the public from real injustices by appealing to folk prejudice. Recently everyone the powers-that-be don't like is a terrorist. Well, a terrorist is something specific. It is one you uses improvised warfare for the purpose of demoralizing an opponent. In other words, terrorists terrorize. Asymmetrical warfare against an invading army is not terrorism. If it was, then we have a terrorist on our $1 bill.

The actions of Stalin, Hitler and others cannot reasonably be characterized as anything other than evil. By the way, "evil" means the same thing as "bad" except it is a noun rather than an adjective (that somehow became its own adjective.)
