Bush like Hitler, says first Muslim in Congress
By Toby Harnden in Washington
Last Updated: 1:14am BST 15/07/2007

Keith Ellison, a convert to Islam, has cultivated a moderate image since being elected last November

America's first Muslim congressman has provoked outrage by apparently comparing President George W Bush to Adolf Hitler and hinting that he might have been responsible for the September 11 attacks.

Addressing a gathering of atheists in his home state of Minnesota, Keith Ellison, a Democrat, compared the 9/11 atrocities to the destruction of the Reichstag, the German parliament, in 1933. This was probably burned down by the Nazis in order to justify Hitler's later seizure of emergency powers.

"It's almost like the Reichstag fire, kind of reminds me of that," Mr Ellison said. "After the Reichstag was burned, they blamed the Communists for it, and it put the leader of that country in a position where he could basically have authority to do whatever he wanted."

2. Oh, please. This hyperbole has to stop.
Comparing scrub to hitler is insane...

Hitler had that crappy mustache.

Hitler looked close to half-way decent in his little soldier suit. (I think that's cuz the little prick actually participated in a war, rather then hang out in Alabama).

Hitler spoke fluent German, commander guy can barely speak English.

It appears Hitler could string five sentences together. And, as big an Ass-clown, Ass-hat, sociopathic loser as he was, he was an eloquent speaker.

4. What you're really saying is, that Bush is vastly inferior to Hitler
and I agree, that Hitler was probably a much smarter person and Hitler showed far more personal courage in the military service, than Bush has ever shown.

The NaziCons that back Bush though, are far more powerful and better equipped militarily, monetarily, organizationally and they utilize a greatly superior propaganda apparatus, than Hitler ever dreamed of being, having or using. And the neocon's ultimate goal of world domination,("New World Order") is exactly the same as Hitler's grand plan was.

12. Holocaust
As someone whose relatives lived thru Germany in the 1930's, can we please STOP all this subtle praising of Hitler? It is just ridiculous. All this junk that he was more artistic, and braver, and an eloquent speaker, etc. Is our collective memory that short? The man was a F'ing psychopath who ordered millions of men, women, and children killed. Why this urge to find reasons to praise the man? It just makes us look like fools when you praise -- even subtly -- Hitler. I guess we should also praise PolPot and Amin too?

I don't care who the current President of this country is; he is not anywhere close to Hitler. But if you want to marginalize yourself, and have your views condemned as being fringe-whacko-left, by all means continue saying how Bush is like Hitler.

14. I didn't mean to praise Hitler in ANY WAY...and I NEVER have.
Don't try to twist what I say, into what you want to imagine I'm saying. I've seen your kind of semi-sly personal attack here and around the internet many, many, times. Shame on you!

And Yes I DO think Bush and his cronies, if left to their own devices have every bit of the potential for evil that the Nazis had and more.

Where are you from in Germany? I've lived there too.

It wasn't a personal attack at all, and it wasn't sly. I wasn't responding to your post per se, but it is emblematic of those who say Hitler was smart, talented, artistic, eloquent, etc. Who cares? As a style of argument, the quickest way to marginalize yourself is to invoke the Bush/Hitler/Nazi argument. Hitler ordered killed millions of his own citizens, as well as those from neighboring countries. He planned the destruction of an entire race/religion.

My point is that you can disagree vehemently and legitimately with this Admin without having to invoke the Hitler thing. Personally, I don't think Bush is like Hitler at all. He's misguided, wrong-headed, incompetent, and a liar, but that is a far cry from setting up concentration camps in the US to dispose of the unwanted. Just a minor point, I guess.

If you truly believe we are living under the equivalent of a Nazi regime, then you have no idea what the heck you're talking about.

I am not from Germany, by the way.

17. "living under the equivalent of a Nazi regime"
Edited on Mon Jul-16-07 11:06 AM by Hubert Flottz
It took Hitler almost 10 years to get to the stage where he was mass murdering the Jews. Halliburton has been building prison camps all over the country. The Germans didn't believe Hitler was killing all those people for about 15 years.

We invaded Iraq and now the death toll there is over a half million people by some accounts and we are killing hundreds more every week. We have tortured and murdered POWs. We have a government that is spying on us and ignoring the rule of law and shredding our Constitution. We are getting ready to invade Iran. WHY?

Edit...BTW..."If you truly believe we are living under the equivalent of a Nazi regime, then you have no idea what the heck you're talking about." Again you are attacking me, because I do not see this issue YOUR way.

18. Adios
We will agree to disagree then. A couple points, though. Although the Final Solution did not really get going until 1942 (nine years after Hitler took office), the Nazis were setting up camps soon after 1933 in an effort to imprison/torture/kill enemies of the state. All of the famous camps we all know about were established before 1940. Hitler killed many of his own citizens even before the Final Solution, including the ill, elderly, mentally challenged, etc. Personally, I see no evidence of Bush doing anything even remotely similar. If you could point to specific instances of US citizens being rounded up, imprisoned, killed, etc., please share with me. I'd be very curious.

Edited on Mon Jul-16-07 12:56 PM by Hubert Flottz
If they have nothing to hide...why do they hide everything? So How, can YOU, prove what they have or have not done?

Edit...From the Secret Energy meetings in the summer of 2001, right up until today, they have hidden almost EVERYTHING they have done.

Innocent, well meaning, people, don't hide everything that goes on in their government, despots do.

23. burden of proof
As an attorney, I have to object to your method of arguing. You can't ask someone to prove he hasn't done something anymore than you can ask a criminal defendant to prove he didn't commit the crime. Can you imagine? The police arrest a guy on suspicion of rape, then tell him, "Prove to me you didn't rape her." Now THAT is facsism. You're the one making allegations, so it is you who has the burden of proof.

I also don't have any evidence that Bush is NOT secretly plotting with the Emperor of Mars to find way to steal the molimdinum from underneath the surface of Venus. Guess that means he is doing it.

I'm going to have to go now, so you'll need to find someone else to chat with. I've got to go reprimer the fallout shelter and get ready for the second coming of the Holocaust. That will come the day the idiots nuke Iran and China and Russia take Iran's side. Have a nice life...

13. Agreed
They're both despicable people and scrub will eventually join the likes of hitler, pol pot, mao, mussolini, peron, etc in the pages of the worst of people in history.

For my money, the bush=hitler diminishes the true damage and how we got here as a result.
Your comparison of the two apparatus' IMO is what hits the nail on the head.
scrub for all his...ahem...qualities, is a dispensible cog. scrubbie was a convenience.

The true failure of the neocons in their Iraq-domination plans was 'They misunderstood what was necessary to secure a whole nation.'
They ignored the military teachings of Sun Tzu, Alexander, etc because they are arrogant bastards.
Their priviledged lifestyles prevented them from seeing the world as it really is and it has cost them.

But...like the little train that could, they are moving on, their eternal quest of finding new enemies (both internally and externally) hoping that they can succeed somewhere else.

They might have succeeded, except that Clinton was elected and re-elected. The internet was in place by the time 9/11 occured and it became difficult for them to hide their failures and turn disater into success.

Had this happened 15 years ago, I shudder to think where we'd be...

11. They're already swiftboating him because he's Muslim.
Come on - you think they need an article like this?

All they have to do is trot out the "Ooooohhh - evil Muslim" meme and their frightened, cowardly followers will jump up in a tizzy.

Ellison's been called everything but "congressman" by these people already. Hell, they even lurched forward in a fit when he was "sworn in" on a Qur'an, even though neither he, nor anyone else, is sworn in on anything. Religious texts are used in the photo-ops AFTER the swearing-in ceremony. That didn't stop the religious wingnut pandering by the GOP to hew and haw over the fact he didn't use a BIBLE in his photo-op, despite the fact that he's not Christian (and I don't recall anyone getting in a tizzy over Lieberman or Feingold's swearing-in ceremonies. I'm sure, being Jewish men, they didn't use a Bible, either).

8. This piece of shit hit-job article about Ellison comes from the TELEGRAPH people
Ellison does NOT say "Bush is like Hitler" nor does he claim Bush planned 9/11 the way the article states.

This is a rightwing hit job pushed by the NeoCon paper over in England.

"To applause from his audience of 300 members of Atheists for Human Rights, Mr Ellison said he would not accuse the Bush administration of planning 9/11 because "you know, that's how they put you in the nut-ball box - dismiss you"."

21. He didn't exactly say that Bush is like Hitler...
I'd like more of his actual words; not paraphrases by the Torygraph, which may be pretty biased.

I do like this statement:

'Mr Ellison also raised eyebrows by telling his audience: "You'll always find this Muslim standing up for your right to be atheists all you want."'
