I thought I was witnessing some *serious* history
and then I woke up and realized it was 2007...

Bob Schieffer had an Uncle Walter moment on the MTP closing comment this morning. I was so ecstatic I shouted, sitting there with my first cup of coffee half finished.

And then I thought about that tree falling in the forest and nobody hearing thing.....

I am still not sure that I believe it: The Iraqi parliament is going on vacation during the month of August.

The White House offers the lame excuse that, after all, Baghdad is hot in August – sometimes 130 degrees.

May I ask a follow-up?

How much hotter do you suppose it is if you are a wearing a helmet, full body armor, carrying ammunition and walking foot patrols through Baghdad?

The last I heard, that is how American troops are spending their August in Iraq.

For me, this does it.

5. Wouldn't it be funny if they came back from vacation

and found that the troops had folded the linen, penned a polite note, and left?

7. yup, very comfy indeed
:sarcasm:

Been there myself - Somalia '92 - '93. Lost 40 pounds in six months despite eating 2 -3 MREs a day (one MRE can technically give sustenance for about 2 days).

I really feel bad for those kids. from my experience, the worst thing is constantly having your rotation date moved; getting shot at, etc., well, at least you can count on that; but having dicks in DC fuck with how much longer you'll be there, that just eats at the soul.

9. Thank you for your sacrifice, TStones....
I only wish that the world would FINALLY evolve to the place that no soldier ever had to do that again. War sucks.

10. Hell, during Vietnam I remember the corrupt little govt we propped up for years
Edited on Sun Jul-15-07 04:33 PM by EVDebs
and Nguyen Cao Ky's 'flying whorehouse' that he'd take up a C-130 (Gen Ky was a pilot you know) and bring a few gals with him. Then the pics of the guy getting shot in the head, the pics of prisoners being dropped out of helicopters, and then to top it off the comments of the soldiers themselves firing over the wall during Tet offensive saying they wanted to be home and going to college...

This is Iraq-nam and Colin Powell knows it. Powell Doctrine shit-canned when it should have been followed to the letter.

Who is going to play the part of Ambassador Graham A. Martin ?
