No turning back!!!
Every day I see a thousand arguments for and against impeaching Bush and Cheney. "It'll take too long," "they don't have the votes," or "we have to defend the Constitution," "if not now, when?"

Now we're seeing the Republicans trying to distance themselves from the very administration they supported and rationalized from the very beginning, some even going so far as to say we've "lost the war" when, as recently as a year ago, they would have pointed their fingers at us and screamed "traitor" or "coward" for saying the same exact thing.

If I had my way, I'd like to toss all of them together on a wildly pitching ship and, waiting until the very moment that the waves sent them crashing together, pour a vat of the strongest glue known to man down upon their heads. I want each and every one of the slippery bastards stuck to Bush and Cheney like flies on putrid piles of excrement.

I want this administration's crimes to be paraded in front of the American people, ad nauseum, until all but the most ferociously stubborn and ignorant can no longer deny the truth. And I want it done in such a way that every single Repug (and DINO) Congresscritter cannot deny their complicity in the crimes. Not only that, but I'd like the Corporate Media that remained so steadfastly complicit as well be tarred with the same sticky brush, sealed permanently to the criminals that took it into their minds to wreak destruction upon our Constitution, our reputation, and our economy.

Succeed or fail, I see impeachment proceedings to be the most likely way to accomplish this. Drag Bush and Cheney in front of Congress and march EVERY SINGLE one of their cronies in front of the cameras to force them to make an ultimate choice--either throw themselves on the mercy of Congress and the American people, or continue to lie and share the same fate as the villains who engineered it all.

For that matter, I'd like to see Members of Congress forced to do the same thing, to justify their decision to sidestep their responsibility to provide oversight and to give BushCo the authority to do just about any goddamn thing they pleased with our military, with our money, and with the trust and goodwill of most of the world.

I want them all to answer for what they've done and for what they haven't done. Bush, Cheney, Rice, Gonzalez, Chertoff, and every last one of the motherfuckers who played in their sandbox while they were shitting all over us and every last ideal that made America a place worthy of at least a small amount of pride.

If they could pull THAT off, I wouldn't even give a fuck if they succeeded. You throw enough evidence into the faces of the American public, the whole Republican party would be so stained and weighed down by guilt it wouldn't be able to raise its head for a generation without staring into a sea of torch and pitchfork wielding citizens ready to storm the castle at the first sign of duplicity.

I want to see the public completely and utterly disgusted and disenchanted with the status quo, the state of affairs that allowed all of this to come to pass. Dismayed and disturbed by the corporate sponsorship of the ship of state and not only those who were elected to steer its rudder, but those who were elected to man the oars.

If each piece of evidence was laid before the American people, frame by frame, clear as it could be possible to make it, with all of the lies stripped bare to see, I would hope that the people would rise up nearly as one and demand that the power of corporate influence be sundered forever, demand that elections be financed by them and them alone, demand that only real, living, breathing people be granted the rights of citizenship, and that the vile fiction of corporate personhood be abolished and driven from our collective psyche for as long as the union might stand.

If every crime, not only against our constitution, but against the people of Iraq, against our soldiers, against our children, against our planet, be hauled into the light of day, with no equivocation allowed, then, and only then, would the people realize what abandoning their duty to choose their leaders has brought us to, the very brink of destruction.

There can be no mercy, no obfuscation, no shrouding of the hard and brutal truths. Only flat, stark, brilliant reality thrust upon the American people like a lance from the sky.

There would be no "spin" allowed during the course of the proceedings. Any "news" agency that did anything but present the evidence AS brought before Congress would either lose its license to use the public airwaves, or be subject to PUBLIC chastisement for its duplicity and complicity. There would be no "this is what this means," but only "this is the evidence. See it for yourselves and decide for yourselves."

"This is what we've allowed ourselves to come to, the turning point we must see and address as free citizens of the United States. Either we cower from the truth and allow them to slink away to rise again to brutalize our children and our children's children in the same way they've brutalized us and the world, or we redefine what it means to be an American for now and forever.

"There is no turning back. There is only going forward. We either come to grips with the truth as thoughtful, aware, involved citizens, or we abandon everything the United States was supposed to be. There IS no middle ground, no compromise with malevolence and brutality. We are either free citizens, or we are the slaves of our fears, doubts, greed, and hubris."

So I say, impeach the motherfuckers and let the chips fall where they may. Either truth and righteousness shall prevail, or we shall sink into the darkness, never again to have the opportunity to live as free men and women.

2. Thanks, Nance...
I'm honored that yours is the first and (so far) only recommend I've received for this one. I actually think it's one of my better rants.

3. It is.
But it's almost dawn here in EST, so you're (temporarily) playing to a very small crowd.

God, I LOVE going to sleep just as the sun is coming up ...

5. I Thought It Was A Great Rant

There comes a time when you've got to stand for something. I don't care anymore whether impeachment would be successful or not. It has to be done. If this isn't the administration that merits it, what would one have to do to merit it?

14. Impeachment isn't an option it's a duty explicitly stated in the constitution. If they
don't impeach, they might as well just wad up the constitution and throw it in the trash.

21. That is my kind of PARADE! K and R
SHOUT DOWN THE WIND by Jim Hindeb

Your post remninds me of Jim Hinde's song "Doin The Perp Walk" www.jimhinde.com

Doin' the Perp Walk
Jim Hinde / Folkbone Productions

World leaders are trying to beseech Bush.

All of my friends are trying to defeat Bush.

I’ve even seen some signs that tell me to impeach Bush.

That ain’t gonna cut it for me.

I won’t be happy ‘til I see him do the perp walk.

Handcuffs and leg irons swingin’ to the perp walk.

Bright orange jumpsuit, stylin’ for the perp walk,

On his merry way to cell block D.

He raided my National Treasury.

Invaded a nation’s sovereignty.

That’s why I won’t be happy ‘til I see him do the perp walk

Exiting the White House, shuffling to the perp walk.

Live on TV, smirkin’ to the perp walk.

That’s democracy for me.

Lest we neglect the Bush Administration,

That gang hell bent for world domination.

Live at The Hague for their humiliation.

That is what I’d truly like to see.

‘Cause I won’t be happy ‘til I see ‘em do the perp walk.

Rove and Rummy marching to the perp walk.

Colin and Johnny dancing to the perp walk,

Getting finger printed on TV.

They acted preeminently,

Searching for those WMDs.

And now I won’t be happy ‘til I see ‘em do the perp walk.

Condoleezza Rice practicing the perp walk.

Bunker bust Cheney and make him do the perp walk.

That’s democracy for me.

But we won’t stop there, with this administration.

Set a precedent for future generations

To not be messin’ with the Peoples reputation.

And that’s the way it oughta be.

If you mess with us you get to do the perp walk.

Don’t matter if you’re rich you get to do the perp walk.

Especially Richard Nixon should have had to do the perp walk.

It’s what we call equality.

That’s the hallmark of grass roots liberty,

And U.S. Constitutionality.

So you Supreme Court Judges ain’t immune to do the perp walk.

Senators and Congressmen take turns to do the perp walk.

This whole damn government may learn to do the perp walk.

That’s democracy for me.

24. I think this is the best rant I've ever read on DU and I've read some
great ones. Congress needs to read and heed that!

Good medicine often has a bitter taste, but the nasty taste soon is forgotten, as the benefits of the cure become apparent and the disease begins to lose it's evil grip on the patient. Think of how great it will feel to be well again and hold your nose. America you're 230 years old now, it's time to put childish things behind you and take your medicine. Impeachment is just what the doctors ordered, to cure the blight that has befallen us.
