I'm Larry Flynt. Don't You Love Me? Althea did.
Pervs like him prey on those poor girls/women who've been used and abused. I can almost hear it: "Hey, I'm your friend, I'm not like those OTHER people..."

"Althea met Larry at age 17 in 1971, when she applied for a job as a stripper at his club in Columbus, Ohio. Larry became interested in her when she informed him he wasn't the only one sleeping with the other strippers...

Althea began using the drugs that Larry was prescribed for pain after he was shot in 1978, and developed an addiction. She was diagnosed with AIDS in 1983; Flynt claims that she contracted the disease from a blood transfusion during a hysterectomy, and that she always used clean needles when using drugs.

Althea died when she drowned at the couple's Bel-Air mansion in Los Angeles, California on June 27, 1987. According to reports, she passed out from an overdose and drowned in the bathtub. Flynt however states that by that point she was in the final stages of AIDS and would have died within a year regardless."

Let's send him some wine, some flowers, and a few bucks to pad his already HUGE bank account, shall we?

"Our" Hero

I hope they walk Balco Barry every time he comes to the plate LOL.

Mets? We'll give 'em a hell of an LCS. I'm thinking it'll be the series that decides who's going to win the WS.

Yes, Larry is not the paragon of virtue, but at least he stands up and uses his money to take down the politicos that campaign on their virtues and family values. I find absolutely no fault with what Larry has done. I think he is just calling a spade a spade and asking the other spades to stand up and own it.

Thank you Larry Flynt and/but I hate his magazine.

8. "Calling a Spade a Spade"
"Black as the Ace of Spades"

"Calling a Spade a Spade" is supposedly traced back to the Greeks "calling a bowl a bowl". Hmmm. When do you suppose it morphed from "bowl" to "spade", and why?

You go on loving LF. He has your best interests at heart. Bet the farm on it.

55. In the 16th century, due to a mistranslation
It derives from an ancient Greek expression: ta syka syka, te:n
skaphe:n de skaphe:n onomasein = "to call a fig a fig, a trough a
trough". This is first recorded in Aristophanes' play The Clouds
(423 B.C.), was used by Menander and Plutarch, and is still current
in modern Greek. There has been a slight shift in meaning: in
ancient times the phrase was often used pejoratively, to denote a
rude person who spoke his mind tactlessly; but it now, like the
English phrase, has an exclusively positive connotation. It is
possible that both the fig and the trough were originally sexual
symbols.
In the Renaissance, Erasmus confused Plutarch's "trough"
(skaphe:) with the Greek word for "digging tool" (skapheion;
the two words are etymologically connected, a trough being
something that is hollowed out) and rendered it in Latin as ligo.
Thence it was translated into English in 1542 by Nicholas Udall in
his translation of Erasmus's version as "to call a spade <...> a
spade". (Bartlett's Familiar Quotations perpetuates Erasmus'
error by mistranslating skaphe: as "spade" three times under
Menander.)

9. I like your post because we should be careful not to elevate anyone to hero status
simply because he/she has done something we "like." Thanks for the balance and the background.

If I recall Flynt admitted to sexual encounters with chickens? I'm not sure I want him on our "team" even if I like what he's up to now.

Recommended.

16. I'm not familiar with the chicken allegation. I read once that he put on parties
where women having sex with animals were the main event, and involved his own children.

Maybe someone here should google Tonya Flynt-Vega.

Then we can joyfully read about what a big liar his OWN DAUGHTER is, after finding God.

I don't want to be a player on a team that idolizes him because they think he's out for THEIR BEST INTERESTS.

15. I think *you* are more degrading to women than Larry Flynt is
by your implying that every woman in the world who has ever posed for a magazine or shot a porno film is some kind of helpless, easily led, drug addicted, weak willed person who just could NOT have possibly made this decision themselves, that they were somehow forced into it.

Yeah, you're a real champion of women's rights, aren't you? You imply that they can't even think for themselves.

29. If that's the issue, why post about his long-dead partner?
Can people appreciate any good he does do, or since you have a problem with porn generally or Hustler in particular should we neglect to honor his positive contributions in other areas?

I don't think real highly of Hustler. I like porn, but I'm grown up enough to realize that not everybody likes the same things that I do in terms of sex or food or sporting events or whatever. Such is life. That doesn't mean I can't say anything nice about people who like meat or sleazy gyno shots or even the fucking Raiders (though that would be rough) and still disagree with them about other things.

After all, 46 POUNDS of phone records must comprise tens of thousands if not hundreds of thousands of phone numbers.

You're searching the records with an unbiased state of mind, NO?

My opinion about LF is as worthless as your opinion of the destruction of the WTC towers. Argue that.

53. Oooh. News Flash: The World Will Die.
We're parasites living on a piece of dirt that only orbits a star because of the chaos of dust floating in the Universe. Somewhere along the timeline of history, tiny pieces of matter left over from the Big Bang came together due to the laws of physics. Strange thing, physics. Float two things in a liquid and sooner they will come together.

This little piece of dirt is here wholly due to chance. We're parasites who've wound up on a piece of dirt circling a star we call Sol due to nothing more than blind luck.

Someday, the star we call Sol will start to fight itself due to the lack of fuel. During that time, a small piece of dirt that was once a part of universal dust (Luna) will decide to make its acquaintance known. When it collides with our little piece of dirt it and the larger piece of dirt (earth) will fragment into a million little pieces.

See Ya.

THE WORLD IS GONNA DIE.

GET IT?
