it is one of the great tragedies that this POS was our senator when the storm hit, instead of john breaux the man who preceded him in that office

what is fun and giggles for people in other states -- is life and death for us

vitter is fucking useless, always has been, always will be -- in our time of need he was there to make sure that nothing got done except kissing *'s ass when it came to getting help for recovery

if there is a god, he will resign, but i'm not holding my damn breath

94. I don't appreciate that kind of remark about our very able and
trustworthy Governor, and, no, I am not being sarcastic.

There seems to me to be a hell of a lot of people on DU that love to take potshots at our state and after all this state has gone through and is still going through, this is despicable.

Please give us some credit. We have a large percentage of people who live in poverty in this state, and we work pretty hard to keep on top of it; and, it doesn't help that pugs have been instigating a takeover since before Edwin Edwards (no, I do not wish to discuss our "Gentleman" governor). We have no more crooks in our State than a lot of others; SO, PLEASE STOP THROWING STONES. I'm sure that Kathleen will do the best that she can for the state and country that she loves.

I'd be perfectly happy to see Vitter "hang in there".

They're in a bad position to nogotiate. They can either suffer through this Vitter scandal, or they can lose a seat in the Senate. I don't see a need for compromise here.

75. Yes, but I'm undecided on how I think these situations should be handled.
Edited on Fri Jul-13-07 07:14 PM by MJDuncan1982
On the one hand, appointing from the party of the vacated politician acknowledges the will of the voters. Also, a practice of appointing from the same party lessens any incentive to "dispose of" politicians that are not of the same party as their governor.

On the other hand, if the practice of appointing from the party of the governor is established, voters can be charged with knowing the consequences of voting in a governor of a particular party (although, this is tenuous, at best). Also, the practice would in this instance benefit the Democrats.

In the end, I tend to think that governors should appoint a replacement from the same party as the vacated politician.

Edit: Clarification.

i think we've established by this time of century that gov. blanco ain't about the personal ego

she does have to worry, continually, about people getting their federal aid and also about fema helping us in FUTURE storms, we are still on the gulf coast and always will be

some folks, it ain't about them, they are actually trying to do good in the world

i would rather see a democrat picked as well, but if vitter refuses to resign unless it's a republican going to replace him, come on...make the deal w. the devil and get vitter out of public life PLEASE

He's an infantilist! He puts on diapers, shits in them and hires hookers to change him. Oh, yeah, lets just let him stay. It's not like he's a national embarassment or anything. I mean, this will go away in a few days, right? No more stories of poopy diapers from former "associates" will get out, right?

Yes, Vitter refusing to resign will be such a problem for the Democrats. Well, I guess it will be difficult digging through all of the jokes to choose the best ones.

in the area. expect a Tony Snow-type announcement, and subsequent resignation for health and family reasons.

and if this turns out to be the case, the Repukes will give him the Snowman pass on any criticism of his personal failings.

31. I agree. We should all e-mail her office and demand a Democrat.
The GOP has no bargaining power in this.

They can keep the diaper man or let him resign. Either way we win.

The Democrats in the Senate need this vote. The Governor can help end the war, can usher more help for N.O.

34. Absolutely. They even recall our Democratic governors like G. Davis.
The governor should not be bullied.

The GOP should be thankful just to let this sack of shit resign.

Personally, I hope Vitter stays in office and is seen about town in D.C. with his party members.

The Governor must appoint a Democrat.

Blanco can appoint a Democrat to replace him, right? After what the repukes have done to her, if she has the power to appoint a Dem, she damn well better do that! Why would she be negotiating with repukes?

was in Roll Call votes. She called him 5 times while he was on the taxpayer's dime! He won't be back. The diaper story has him hanging his head LOW. I really doubt that he can show his face in DC again.:7

67. Apparently the hospital rumor is false.
"Other rumors swirled around town yesterday that Vitter had been hospitalized. Some of these came from remarkably well-placed sources, but last night I was told they were false by a knowledgable source I trust. That's good news."

102. "FAMILY VALUES" HO MONGERS
The link in this post is incorrect. The correct link is:
http://www.legitgov.org/dc_madam_phone_records_090707.html

This is massively important as an issue. The main point is that there are NOT 2 sets of laws in this country, one for the little people and one for those in power. The kind of hyprocracy displayed by Git Her Vitter is appalling!

Check out the above link (Citizens for Legitimate Government). It's making for some fascinating reading!
Thank YOU, DU!

103. Why should Blanco appoint a Republican?
The choice for the GOP should be either:

1) Keep Vitter, and cope with the bad image

or

2) Lose the seat

I don't see why they should be handed a get of jail free card here. Is there any doubt what the GOP would do if the situation were reversed? Remember the GOP push to replace the Dem who had a stroke?
