NBC makes my head explode
Lisa Myers' report tonight on Katrina waste was a waste of my time.
Her lessons:
Government rebuilding bad.
Private enterprise rebuilding good.
Charity help good.
Federal spending great.
State oversight bad.
Mississippi good.
Louisiana bad.

WHY do these pretend news people try to explain complicated matters with video shorthand and human-interest-angle chicanery???????????

3. I hate her from Clinton impeachment days.
She is a tight ass moralizing rightie. I would not trust her with the chunks from the kitty litter box.

5. I'd say correct but incomplete - trying to cram an hour's story
in less than 3 minutes.

For example - municipalities must contribute 10% of the cost and then the Federal government will kick in the other 90%. What is the basis of this law? Who backed it? It's entirely possible that the law was written that way to keep the federal government from deciding which projects would be funded ie it may have been written up that way to protect states' rights.

Example - state bureaucracies are holding things up going though procedures to prevent fraud. That could be a good thing.

We weren't shown any comparison from city to city or state to state. We weren't told what kind of rebuilding programs are out there. We weren't told how many projects are held up while private owners negotiate or litigate with insurance companies.

4. She just reads what's in front of her.
I don't think she's either smart or canny enought to have an agenda of her own.

7. Hmmmm
Railroad bridge damaged.
Rebuilt with private funds.
Highway bridge damaged.
Still unrebuilt (gubmint funding).

Hey, Lisa...CSX used its own money after trying to squeeze it out of the feds to rebuilt a rail line that's a private enterprise. Highway is a non a for-profit enterprise, thereby government must step in and can't because of the Bush fuckups.

All this report did was bash government involvement in anything. Fuck, then let's have Wal-Mart fix I-70! Let's have the church pay for Medicare. And ooh that Mississippi sure does things right. Yep.
