(CBS) NEW YORK

Joel Siegel - Reviewed Films For More Than 25 Years on ABC

Popular entertainment critic Joel Siegel has died after a protracted battle with cancer,
CBS 2 has learned. He was 63.

Siegel began his career at WABC-TV in 1976 as a movie and theater critic.
In 1981 his role expanded to Good Morning America.

Siegel's highly regarded weekly movie reviews were peppered with humor, wit, and warmth.

Outside of reviewing films, Siegel also co-founded "Gilda's Club," a non-profit organization
named for the late Saturday Night Live actress Gilda Radner.

He also worked hard to educate others about his disease and supported numerous charities
around the country.

Siegel continued to work up until two weeks before his death.

Funeral arrangements are currently being planned by his family.

--------------

I liked his reviews. He'll be missed. So sad for his wife and 9 year old son.
