More Dollars, Less Sense: Worsening Contracting Trends Under the Bush Administration

Last year, Rep. Henry A. Waxman released the first comprehensive assessment of government contracting under the Bush Administration. One year later, Chairman Waxman is issuing a new report which reveals that the worrisome trends identified last year have worsened significantly. For the first time, (1) annual federal procurement spending crossed the $400 billion threshold, (2) more than half of this spending — over $200 billion in new contracts — was awarded without full and open competition, and (3) the total value of wasteful federal contracts now exceeds $1 trillion.

Chairman Waxman has also released an updated database of federal contracts exhibiting signs of waste, fraud, and abuse.

2. I think the Democrats ought to tie the next round of Iraq funding to contractors
Just cut out all funding to contractors. Fund the troops and Iraqis themselves re-buildign Iraq. Even I wouldn't object to that. The Iraqis need work and what better way than to have them rebuild their own country? They've only been building things there for what - 5000 years? :sarcasm:

Oh, and while they're at it, let's let the army be self sufficient again, with their own mess halls, etc. Don't pay KRE for their overpriced crap.
