How do you folks figure that 70% of people are opposed to this immigration bill and immigration policy and none of them are Democrats?

4. Me, too
Its unrealistic and economically unsustainable. It would have a devastating affect on our economy in both the long and short term. Immigration policy has to remain realistic and sustainable.

How in the world could we ever expect to implement and pay for a single payer health care system if we simultaneously let millions of immigrants into the country? Its impossible, wouldn't work.

As much as I like immigrants, I would prefer to help them in their own countries than bring them here.

5. Bigotry is the number one calling card of the GOP
Edited on Mon Jun-25-07 07:42 AM by niceypoo
It's not about illegal aliens....its about BROWN PEOPLE. It's always about bigotry with them. Republicans hate Mexicans...Republicans hate Gays...Republicans hate Liberals...Republicans hate African Americans. Its always about bigotry with them. It's the glue that holds them together. It's the lowest common denominator.

7. I don't think our leadership gets it.
I've written Ken Salazar several times on this, and never get a meaningful reply. I've been trying to tell him: Close the border first, prosecute some employers, THEN we can have a meaningful discussion about what to do with the people here. I don't trust that it won't be 1986 all over again, and in 2020 we'll have twenty million more, and then what, another amnesty?

9. I am opposed to it...it does nothing to address the problems
we face because of illegal immigration. It is a cheap, easy way to ignore the problem.

I have nothing agaist legal immigrants, I have nothing against Mexicans, Central or South Americans...I have a problem w/those who employ illegals, I have a problem w/people who break the law, I have a problem w/the slap in the face to all those who entered this country legally and became or are becoming citizens or legal visitors/workers. I have a problem w/legislation that sweeps the problem away under the guise of "viability", and I have a problem w/bigots that just want more "poor" people they can exploit.

11. Lots of us Leftnecks are against it
The working poor in this country are kept that way
by employers who replace them with people from latin countries
either by replacing them in the low wage high school and trade school grads jobs
or threatening to replace them if they don't like the wages they get

I worked construction for 30 years
I've seen it happen everywhere
it happened to me for years

But, no, that doesn't mean I blame the immigrants
It's the ownership class's fault

12. They should wait until the anti-immigrant fed fever goes down
before crafting an immigration bill.

13. If you're not a Democrat, that doesn't necessarily mean you're a Republican
however tongue in cheek your OP was. There are plenty of people who don't identify with either major party. But yes, in reality, there are many Democrats against the bill, which I presume is our real point.
