Cheney's Energy Task Force + 9/11 x Iraq Occupation = Iraq Oil Privatization Plan
I'm not really the best person to write this, but isn't it becoming increasingly obvious how the Bush admin works? They're not THAT smart and it's become (in my opinion) rather transparent how the Iraq situation occured. It was a plan from the start and it went something like this... I crapped out in the middle of putting together the full linkage because I felt my soul shrinking and contracting in the process and I felt I needed to stop and distract myself with other crap to stay sane.

They got in office and right away, they hatched a plan to grab some oil and kick ass and make a name for themselves in history in one swell foop. They got some bullshit academic thinktanks to legitimize their "strategy" from a geopolitical POV and then they set about on their plan for theft, profits and the Amurikkkan way.

The links are clear, the timelines work and I'm too nauseous to keep looking into this Void.

THE PLAN

Document Says Oil Chiefs Met With Cheney Task Force
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/11/15/AR2005111501842.html

According to the White House document, Rouse met with task force staff members on Feb. 14, 2001. On March 21, they met with Archie Dunham, who was chairman of Conoco. On April 12, according to the document, task force staff members met with Conoco official Huffman and two officials from the U.S. Oil and Gas Association, Wayne Gibbens and Alby Modiano.

Most of the activities of the Energy Task Force have not been disclosed to the public, even though Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests (since 19 April 2001) have sought to gain access to its materials. The organisations Judicial Watch and Sierra Club launched a law suit (U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia: Judicial Watch Inc. v. Department of Energy, et al., Civil Action No. 01-0981) under the FOIA to gain access to the task force's materials. On 5 March 2002 the US Government was ordered to make a full disclosure; this has not happened, pending appeal. In the Summer of 2003 a partial disclosure of these materials was made by the Commerce Department. This resulted in the release of documents, maps, and charts, dated March 2001, of Iraq's, Saudi Arabia's and United Arab Emirates' oil fields, pipelines, refineries, tanker terminals and development projects. The Case eventually went to the Supreme Court and the ruling was to send the case back to the Court of Appeals.

(Edited to keep out of dungeon. Believe what you need to in order to stay sane if you wish.)

THE IMPLEMENTATION

Secret US plans for Iraq's oil By Greg Palast
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/programmes/newsnight/4354269.stm

"Big Oil" appears to have won. The latest plan, obtained by Newsnight from the US State Department was, we learned, drafted with the help of American oil industry consultants.

Insiders told Newsnight that planning began "within weeks" of Bush's first taking office in 2001, long before the September 11th attack on the US.

Secret sell-off plan

The industry-favoured plan was pushed aside by a secret plan, drafted just before the invasion in 2003, which called for the sell-off of all of Iraq's oil fields. The new plan was crafted by neo-conservatives intent on using Iraq's oil to destroy the Opec cartel through massive increases in production above Opec quotas.

And so on, and so on...

1. You mentioned "think tanks"
Like the Project for a New American Century - whose position papers have been signed by the likes of Cheney, Jeb Bush, Rumsfeld, Feith & others who have served in this administration. So the plan was laid out well before these criminals stole the white house.

2. Yeah, that's the one. Thanks. I mean, jeez, it's all pretty obvious isn't it?
I think that the job of the media is just obfuscation and distraction. Sell product. That's all.

Read "Amusing Ourselves to Death". It tells the whole political/media story and it was written what 30 years ago?

Harper’s: Baghdad Coup D’État For Big Oil

http://www.gregpalast.com/harpers-baghdad-coup-detat-for-big-oil/

"Harper’s Magazine investigation reveals how Big Oil vanquished the neo-cons - and OPEC is the winner.

“For months, the State Department officially denied the existence of this 323-page plan for Iraq’s oil”

Some conspiracy nuts believe the Bush Administration had a secret plan to control Iraq’s oil. In fact, there were TWO plans. In a joint investigation with BBC Television Newsnight, Harper’s Magazine has uncovered a hidden battle over Iraq’s oil. It began right after Mr. Bush took office - with a previously unreported plot to invade Iraq."

5. Curious
How much Iraqi oil were we receiving before going into Iraq, and how much are we receiving now?

7. There was a Forbes Journal article prior to the war...
Edited on Thu Jun-14-07 03:41 PM by AntiFascist
that detailed the amount of oil in Iraq, how easy it was to extract, and how Saddam was allowing these oil fields to fall to ruin. The figures outlined in this article basically sold the idea to Big Business that a war on Iraq would not only pay for itself, but also provide huge dividends including lowering the price of gas....LOL. (and, of course, they would also be greeting us as liberators)

On edit: Here is the article, dated 10/28/02:

http://www.globalpolicy.org/security/oil/2002/1028opec.htm

this webpage doesn't include all the pretty charts and graphs of the original article.

"Iraq has huge oil reserves and the world's cheapest lifting costs. That's why a war against Saddam could change everything."

8. The point of this article was to demonstrate how the US could compete...
against OPEC. After the invasion, Greg Palast has documented how good ole Cheney chose instead to work together and cooperate with OPEC.
