Two plead not guilty to Boston hoax charges
Edited on Thu Feb-01-07 09:00 PM by gatorboy
http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/02/01/boston.bombscare/index.html

Assistant Attorney General John Grossman called the light boards "bomb-like" devices and said that if they had been explosive they could have damaged transportation infrastructure in the city.

(Yeah and if they were dinosaur eggs we'd be chased by raptors)

Asked by the judge to describe what the figure on the light box was doing, Grossman said, "Colloquially, he was flipping the bird, your honor."

It's worth posting just for that last line alone.

P.S. CNN: it wasn't a hoax!

3. Who was behind this campaign. They are the ones who..
should be brought into court. I'd like to see a huge settlement to the city too. There is no excuse for this kind of action.

6. No. Whoever was behind the marketing campaign should be...
held accountable. The Mayor did nothing wrong here. :eyes:

7. Marketing is a crime now?
Goodness gracious me.

"he Mayor did nothing wrong here."

Well, there's that whole fear-mongering and unlawful prosecution thing going on.

14. No it will not be served.
Tasering a kid for not showing his ID in a public library is O.K, but this little stunt is wrong? :wtf: is wrong around here?

16. Tasering a kid for not showing ID in a public library is OK? Where'd that come from?
The reaction to what happened is, ultimately, embarrassing and makes a mockery out of Homeland Security. They need to take a look at the reaction, both nt'l security-wise but also media-wise.

18. Many around here were justifying the tasering of a college student...
at UCLA. At the same time, they are condemning the prosecutor here.

22. I think the prosecuter is going after the wrong people, IF there was even a crime.
Not everything is a crime and this doesn't meet my definition of one. Embarrassing? Yes. Hurtful to a lot of people by being very scary? Yes. Criminal? No. They need to look at wtf happened, why these were up for 2-3 wks before suddenly they got noticed enough to be taken as scary, why there was such a reaction by police, by media.

25. In my first post, I said they should go after the people who...

were behind this stunt. Not these two kids (foolish as they are), they should not be the one's prosecuted.

I agree that there are over reactions. We see them almost everyday on tv. The media did overreact here, as usual, but this "marketing campaign" was still a bad idea.

26. who fed into the scare? Who reacted how? Who over reacted how?
Not these kids. Not the ones hanging these in other cities all over the USA. Not the ones who thought up the ad campaign. Not the police, the authorities, the media in those other cities who saw these, checked them out, shrugged and went on with everyday crimefighting. None of them. But those that over reacted, those that fed the fear and paranoia. From the top down. They were wrong. I do not think criminal, but wrong.

17. I'm not following.
These kids did nothing wrong. Justice would be served if the charges are thrown out of court.

And that looks like it's going to happen.

I guess these are around Los Angeles as well. Haven't seen any myself but the question was brought up on last night's local newscast. To me, this is just more John Karr, missing blond, Bradjalina, TomKat, duct tape, over hyped info-tainment bullshit. The 1970's hairdo obsessed "pranksters" do come across as serious ass clowns but ass clownery isn't illegal.

13. 2 plead not guilty, thousands react in anger to their fear and embarrasment.
They did a good job of saying "no comment" to reporters. Maybe they can grow up to be WhiteHouse spocksmen.

19. What gets me is how quick this caught on with all the media.
surely there are bomb scares all across the country. Hell, we'd get them at school every other week. But the speed that the media caught on to this almost feels like Boston was actually promoting the scare. And the MSM couldn't wait to lap it up.

"Quick! Get our best graphics guys to do a Boston Under Attack logo stat!
