Help PDA Change the Face of Congress

While most of the country is oblivious, a key special election for an open U.S. Congress seat takes place on June 26th in Los Angeles County. And one of the 17 candidates in the wide-open race is not only PDA endorsed, he’s a PDA activist.

Peter Mathews’ positions are OUR positions. He has been long been outspoken about Iraq troop withdrawal, single-payer Medicare for All, Clean Elections, even accountability/impeachment.

Normally, an under-funded candidate would have little chance of winning a Congressional seat, but in this free-for-all of a race Peter may well surprise on June 26. Please make a generous https://www.pdamerica.org/donate.php">donation now to PDA so we can help candidates like Peter Mathews.

Peter is an Asian-American of Indian descent, a popular professor well-known in the district. He is seeking to fill the seat vacated by Juanita Millender-McDonald, who recently died of cancer. The multiracial district includes Long Beach, Compton and Carson.

If you don’t live in Southern California, a good way to help Peter Mathews’ campaign is by doing virtual phone-banking into the district. Please email California PDA leader Dr. Bill Honigman at [email protected] and he’ll set you up so you can make calls from your own home immediately.

Another great way is to https://www.pdamerica.org/donate.php">donate to PDA. (Please enter PAF in the Special Fund Drive box near top of donation form.)

Learn more about Peter Mathews at the campaign website, or by listening to Lila Garrett’s recent interview with Peter on her “Connect the Dots” radio program on KPFK

If you do live in Southern California, volunteer with the campaign – and don’t miss the antiwar rally being sponsored by the Mathews campaign at the Recreation Park (7th and Park Av.) in Long Beach on Monday, June 11, 4-6pm.

PDA is dedicated to supporting candidates for office who are themselves progressive activists – like Peter Mathews. And like Jamie Eldridge, competing in a special Congressional election in Massachusetts on Sept. 4.

Help us help them,

Tim Carpenter

Progressive Democrats of America is a grassroots PAC that works both inside the Democratic Party and outside in movements for peace and justice. Our goal: Extend the victory of Nov. 2006 into a permanent, progressive majority. PDA’s advisory board includes six members of Congress and activist leaders such as Tom Hayden, Cindy Sheehan, Medea Benjamin and Rev. Lennox Yearwood. More info: http://pdamerica.org/.
