I have a couple of AS friends, but of course you can't tell from a static pic whether someone is exhibiting a syndrome or simply being, well-- um-- erm....

I'm an academic scientist, so dweebishness is part of my normal social milieu. I hope my attempt at humor doesn't offend you. It's late, and my social skills are deteriorating fast.

10. Please Dr. Frist
you have no proof that he is autistic, and didn't you learn something when you diagnosed Schiavo this way?

and there is a BIG HUGE MAGNIFICENT STUPENDOUS uhh yeah, difference between HAS an illness and SUSPECTED TO HAVE!!! Do not try to diagnose without:

A. A doctors license.
B. A fucking clue.

18. Ok then i can diagnose as well
You diagnose someone on innuendo and hearsay. That makes you a "voodoo" doctor. So i guess it's ok. BTW i see him as shy and not sure of himself, What makes your super duper doctoring radar the truth? Mr. Gates or his doctor have NEVER said he has a illness. Yet there we have you with some kind of 4th dimensional diagnostic skill. Next you will tell me you have gaydar as well.

19. it is not an 'illness' it is a syndrome.. a collection of specific genetic criteria.. why are you so
cranky..??

best to be thought foolish than flip out and remove any doubt..

it is called... conversation not confrontation

21. I just do not understand how
you can diagnose someone with a syndrome and have not even been within 10 feet of them It's amazing. Your powers of medicine should be published in JAMA

30. Nah some people cannot and will not realize
that even the wealthiest man in the world has a syndrome

It is not possible in their world view

He might have the same reaction if tomorrow it was published that Gates had diabetes

Somehow, his level of success is incompatible with any medical condition

I've seen this before.

31. i know i have Aspergers.. some people cant believe i have an IQ of 164 and cant recognize faces or
do simple math, remember names and some other common things.. they get really angry.

i had a teacher that thought i was cheating because i did an algebra problem for them and got it right and couldn't do fractions.. till i explained to him how i solved the problem using Geometry

actually last summer i got a book and learned Algebra up to quadratic inequalities.. i finally learned it ..at age 57. i have voracious appetite for knowledge and information, i worked at Shell Research Development Corp.. i worked for Boeing and built Avionic control systems for the F22, Delta3 Rocket and the Sea Launch Rocket.. building micro-circuitry under a microscope to Space Certifications.. i did 2.4 times more work than anyone else on our 22 person team, and never made any errors, i was made an inspector and did special rework on Black Box stuff from the Skunk works under guard after work

Aspies are not mentally ill, we have special talents that can be used to benefit society.

32. Damn
I am searching everything and NO WHERE has it been published that Bill Gates said "I have asperger syndrome. There is a lot of "SPECULATION" but no confirmation or proof. This is NO different than when Frist looked at a video of Shiavo and pronounced her "Fine"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/People_speculated_to_have_been_autistic

Speculated contemporary figures

* Bill Gates - Temple Grandin stated in her essay Genius May be an Abnormality that, "It is also likely that Bill Gates has many Asperger's traits."<20> Her opinion cites behavior patterns that do not appear among the DSM-IV criteria.<1> A news article titled Would you have allowed Bill Gates to be born written by Arthur Caplan, PhD. states, "Gates is widely reported to display many personality traits characteristic of a condition known as Asperger's syndrome ... While I certainly do not know if Gates has Asperger's, his difficulties in social settings are nearly as legendary as his genius, so it's possible"<2>.

I like caffeine it helps me not to speculate so much.

33. There you go again
having not met me other than this fantasy of yours about "suspected" syndrome of Bill Gates you drop to the lowest form. Freeper huh? Very good.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/People_speculated_to_have_been_autistic

See the key word here is "SUSPECTED" He "MAY" have it but i am not "His" doctor or Bill Gates so i can only "Suspect" see how it works?

There is a group of people that take innuendo and half facts and turn them into the "truth" hmmm

Mr. Gates suffers from Aspergers syndrome

I cannot get my reference right at the moment, but it has been published and among the community of AS syndrome people he is a role model

I ain't saying it is right, or wrong, just pointing out that he wasn't rich either.

And I do have a kid we know with Aspergers, and one thing that drives me and everybody around him oh batty is his bad habit of lying

2. Gates is a High Functioning Autistic, doesnt have really good social perception, Aspergers
Aspies dont read body language.. probably dont have it, they dont read verbal innuendo or body language.. they dont know what the hell is going on socially. they do have good verbal skills though.

i have Aspergers, i have an IQ of 165 but am essentially functionally illiterate, although i have good verbal skills. i invent and fabricate things.. i have a 98%% in abstract reasoning, 97%% in mechanical perception, 7%% in mathematical perception but take notes in algebra

aspies dont know what is going on socially, they have no social perception dont read body language or have any, dont read verbal innuendo, or have any

26. Do you go insult people on a regular basis
I know personally an Aspie, the kid is brilliant, and if he finds whatever he's good at and sticks to it, he might make a living, or rather would make a living'

but social graces he ain't have

By the way, if you watched the Daily Show with John Stewart when he interviewed Gates... if you know what you are looking in the syndrome, he exhibited CLASSIC behaviour, including standing up and leaving the studio when HE was done... not when the program went to commercial. No, it wasn't he the wealhty man, it was him the aspie.
