Do people honestly think that all Democratic leaders have life-long marriages to women approximately their own age? How about Teddy Kennedy, who married a woman 22 years his junior, or John COnyers, whose wife is more than 35 years younger than he is.

I have seen that repeated on DU as a talking point again and again. Yet they all seem to forget about Dennis.

It's just stupid. People ridicule Thompson and talk about his FORTY-year-old "child bride" and her being his second wife, yet they forget all about Dennis and his MUCH younger third wife. Seems like when she enters the scene, all anyone can talk about is how gorgeous she is, what a great First Lady she would make, and what a great guy Dennis must be if someone as young and gorgeous as her loves him so much!

Then, if this is pointed out, they say "but, but, Fred will run on family values." Well, Dennis is running on, among other things, peace. How "peaceful" and noncontentious is your average divorce?

Or they say "But the Repugs won't like Fred's wife." Nonsense. Since when have Repug voters ever been turned off by trophy wives--any more than they have been by candidates far wealthier than they are? They're not. They see these guys as the kind of guys THEY wish they were. The trophy wife only makes them admire the guy more.

Honestly, the double standard is outrageous. Either Fred's wife is an issue, or she is a NON-issue. I vote "non-issue." There are plenty of other substantial reasons not to like Fred. Go to 'em, folks. This one is a non-starter...except on DU.
