Qualified recruits who enlist for two years plus training are eligible for an enlistment bonus of up to $15,000, which can be combined with the Montgomery GI Bill and Army College Fund of $36,864. These incentives are available to qualified recruits who enlist in one of more than 45 job specialties, including fire support specialist (13F), signal support systems specialist (25U), petroleum supply specialist (92F), pharmacy specialist (68Q) and health care specialist (68W).

Three-year enlistments:
The Army also raised the maximum combined bonus for three-year enlistments to $25,000 for all military specialties. Previously, the maximum amount for a three-year enlistment was $10,000, and $20,000 for a limited number of priority MOSs.

1. Apparently - they are real short captains -
I think mid level officers generally.

I wonder why (sarcastically). Those are the people with a conscience I think.

I think the provisions for retirement is now ten years instead of twenty. On some level it is.

I think this is so sad.

Joe

2. In the words of Han Solo:
What good is a reward if you're not around to spend it?

No matter what they do, they have to know that no carrot, no matter how attractive, is going to do much good if the would-be recruits are seeing the chaos in Iraq on their TV screens every night -- I hope.

3. I think it is so.
I have no real problem with the military - generally. You can join the army to get something out of it - it is possible.

The thing is - I think the officers have proved what they are made of. And it is not good.

There are maybe 160 K in Iraq right now. About a 100K are just supporting the rest that go in to do the dirty jobs now.

If tyour idea here is to get those kids home now - It is just not right.

Joe

4. just a thought from history...
In the late 60's we used to say something along the lines of, Join the Navy, Join the Airforce.... Beat the Draft.......

How much longer can the great hegemonic machine keep going without a draft?

a thousand or so military bases around the world. Of course, there is always Blackwater...... or are they just supposed to control us after martial law....?
